Setting it to 3 cycles per hour would force it to be less pedantic
  • Yes just realised and set back to 6 and 1. Back to the begging😟
  • I still think that what you are experiencing is normal for the TR3 which is NOT an On/Off thermostat. From the Honeywell website:

Q: Hi can you tell me what the temperature differential is please.

A: Hi It cycles the boiler as it reaches the set point, and it will regularly cycle to boiler to maintain the temperature via a Self-learning TPI Fuzzy Logic algorithm (parameters are adjustable). So it doesn't use traditional switching with a differential.

I have a Tado thermostat with a WB boiler. During the day, the boiler modulates from 24kWs down to 5kWs. This means that it starts at full power but as rooms approach their set temperatures, the TRVs close and water flow reduces. The boiler then modulates down to its lowest setting. When the heating demand to maintain the set temperature requires a boiler output of less than 5kWs, the boiler will start to cycle. My boiler is doing this now. Gas usage is very low as this graph shows: (Usage kWhs per 30 minutes as recorded by a smart meter)
  • Thank you . I was worried that we had changed to a better energy saving boiler and it was not the case. So its what to expect?😊
  • So on and off every 10 mins is about right when at chosen room Temp?
  • Energy saving means different things to different people. Modern boilers have the ability to extract heat from the boiler exhaust plume when the water returning to the boiler is less than 56C. It takes time for the boiler to reach this state and it depends on the size of your radiators and the overall heating requirement.  Adding a new boiler to an existing set of radiators is not ideal as they are undersized for a condensing boiler which needs to run at a lower flow temperature than the 80C of your old boiler. Yes, you will see some savings but they might be as large as you might hope. A room will only reach a set temperature when the heat coming into a room equals the heat loss. A new boiler doesn’t change this equation.
  • The boiler was on the govt scheme via EON I trusted them to know what they are selling . I a. Totally flumoxed. my old boiler was ideal ISAR he 30 did the job for 13yrs. This worcester Bosch 30i green Star was their choice.
Very complicated to me. When I was a child we just had mum making the fire in the morning then shouting us down to huddle around fire. We survived😊😊

I really don't think you have a problem, it is going to do what is necessary to maintain your set temperature, rather than waiting for it to fall before acting.
I'd let it run as they left it for now and not worry about it.
  • Thank you all for your input to help me. Stay safe and well.😃
