Bad customer experience when purchasing a desk - ask for compensation?

Hi all,
I've bought a very expensive sit-stand desk (the one that goes up and down as you wish) to work from home. I have RSI and need adjustable equipment. My employer didn't contribute as it's not their policy (which is fine by me). The cost came to £700. The desk itself is very good quality and just what I need, however, the company has completely messed up the delivery which led to me not having the desk after two weeks of initial delivery date.
First they offered installation on Wednesday, but then they called and said it will be late and offered to deliver the desk for self-installation on Friday. Then on Friday they delivered a big parcel and I unassembled my current desk and sold it on Facebook (as everything I've ever bought online always arrived ok and worked straight away and I didn't have space to keep it). When assembling the table on Saturday, I've realised they sent me only half of the desk without letting me know. The second part came on Monday which led to me missing work. Then when that part arrived, it transpired that the part that actually makes the desk go up and down is out of stock and should be with them within a week. Then today they tell me they're now expecting it in a week's time. All this time my workspace is not ergonomically set up so it's not very comfortable to work.
They have been apologetic and said they will offer compensation once the desk is fully up, but I'm really sure what I'm entitled to. Delays happen, but I feel they should have told me that the desk will arrive in multiple parts and if it was delayed so much, they should have not sent it at all, offered me a full refund, and allowed me to order a similar desk somewhere else.
Do you have any advice on what rights do I have and how much compensation I can ask for? Ideally, I'd like 50% off but not sure if they'd go for it. It's an essential item that I need to earn a living and they should have communicated and dealt with the situation better. They have good reviews and say that the situation is due to corona and brexit, but surely the lockdown has been going on for ages so they should have at least warned me to keep my current set-up just in case. So to me it's just their excuse for poor communication and poor management of current situation.
Thank you!

I can't see how a bit of faff about delivery would equate to half the cost of the product.4

thank you! What do you think is reasonable?davidmcn said:I can't see how a bit of faff about delivery would equate to half the cost of the product.0 -
This. Don't be greedy. I'd have thought something like £50 off, perhaps even £70 (10%) would be a reasonable outcome and reflective of the minor inconvenience you've encountered.davidmcn said:I can't see how a bit of faff about delivery would equate to half the cost of the product.
What business is your employer in? Do you give out half price refunds when you make mistakes?1 -
This is a good suggestion thanks! Some businesses give 100% refunds when they make mistakesAylesbury_Duck said:

Ideally, I'd like 50% off - Thanks for the laugh.
They owe you nothing, it's great customer service that they are offering you any, so your title's misleading.1 -
The second part came on Monday which led to me missing work. I thought you are working from home.

yes I need the desk to work from home on it. I have RSI and can't work on a sofa or on a kitchen table top.pallyman said:The second part came on Monday which led to me missing work. I thought you are working from home.0
