Lookers ‘14 day no quibble return.’ Any experiences?

I’m having car trouble and possibly have to buy a new second hand car.  I’ve been looking at the Lookers website and there is no test driving due to COVID.

The website has an explanation of how to buy online which includes the following -
Can I see the vehicle in person?

Not at this time, however, please be assured buying a vehicle online from Lookers is safe. Every used vehicle is mechanically inspected and checked against the HPI database, which verifies its history and mileage. You will also have 14 days from delivery of the vehicle for a no quibble return should you decide not to keep it.

I’m thinking this means I can buy a car, drive it for up to 14 days and return it if it’s not the car for me - an extended test drive so to speak.

Now, call me a cynic but the vagueness of this suggests it may not be that simple.

Does anybody know what costs/obstacles I’m facing if I decide to return a car?  And does anyone have any experience of returning a car on this or similar COVID schemes?

  • They say it's no quibble but I can't see the terms and conditions for any small print.

I can't comment on the Lookers scheme.
In general, beware that if you do a trade in, that will likely be passed off to an auction house straight away.  If you exercise the return of the new car, then they probably can't give you the old car back.  Thus you are left carless.

Good point - currently car less, so that ones avoided for me 👍

Yeah, seems a simple idea, but I’m highly suspicious it’s that simple, especially when I can’t find t’s and c’s.  Glad you couldn’t find them either, I feel less daft now.

Has the OP previously seen / chosen / test driven the type of car they wish to buy?
Are they buying one of the pre-reg cars that Lookers sell, or an older "used" car?  If the former, the risk is really quite low.

An older 2015..ish car, never seen or driven one before? 🤔

    Good questions Grumpy chap
  •  14 days return for online purchases is standard, not unique to lookers.
You are allowed to reasonably inspect the goods and reject for full refund within 14 days of getting them if you want to.
Driving and clocking up miles for 14 days might not been be seen as reasonable. You've taken value off the car.

Well, I can't even see that the Lookers website says they offer "14 day no quibble" returns, let alone see what the Ts&Cs are.
My local garage (not Lookers) offers a "peace of mind guarantee" but that is 30 day exchange plan, not refund.  Is the Lookers scheme similar?  (That way, Lookers still keep your money.)

Under their explanation of Click and Drive it states what I’ve copied above.

I’d feel much more comfortable buying this way if I knew that it was a simple return, as they suggest.  I’ll obviously ask these questions if I decide to look further at buying a vehicle off them (might still get a fix on me old Panda 🤞).
