I am a single-person household and am thinking about applying for a water meter. STWA supplies my water and Anglian Water deals with sewerage, drainage etc.. If I apply to STWA for a water meter, how does that affect Anglian Water who won't be metering anything?

STWA simply inform Anglian Water of how much water you have used.
Water from one company and sewerage facilities from another company is very common across UK; usually where a costomer is near the border between the two company's catchment area.
Sometimes the water supply company collects both water and sewerage charges, and sometimes the customer gets separate bills
  • Yes, Severn Trent supply my water and Welsh Water look after anything else. It all appears on a single bill from the water supplier broken down into charges from both parties.

Both companies get / share the readings taken by the meter reader.

So you are billed for actual water intake, in cubic meters, by Severn Trent and waste water out (Sewerage), also in cubic meters, by Anglia (who may only charge 90% of the intake volume).

You'll get a bill from each company, or one bill for both parts, just like you do now;  except it/they will be based on actual consumption rather than rateable value of the dwelling.

Worked fine for us when in Lowestoft and Essex & Suffolk Water supplied but Anglia took away (separate bills) and would have in the Watford area for Colne Valley/Thames (combined bill) had we been on a meter.

Now, we have it all from Anglian, here in Beds.

Take regular meter reads yourself (monthly?) as it will allow you to check the bill(s) correct; and can alert you to a leak if it's suddenly higher than usual!
