you might get some more specialised responses over on the 'Small Business and Charities' board, as I imagine a personal account won't be appropriate

  • It will depend on the annual turnover.
If it is expected to be over £50k PA then a business account will be required.
Otherwise a Club/Society/Treasurers account offered by banks will be fine.

However the problem you will have for now is that they are not opening this type of account due to Covid.

Thinking short term - Could perhaps contact the nearest food bank to yours and see what they're doing?  I guess you want the money to be able to order stock - Anyone know if it would be okay to get them to pay it in perhaps, and order the stock for you?  Just thinking until end of lockdown and you can get to a bank with ID etc.

Debt free - finally finished paying off £20k + Interest.

What form of legal entity is your Food Bank? Is it a registered charity, is it an unincorporated association? Or what is it? Even in normal times to open a "Treasurer" or "Community" account a bank may want to see the written constitution of the organisation, to know who the proper officers are, who should be operating the account. These would be, for example, the Chairman, the Treasurer and the Secretary of the organisation. The bank may need a copy of the minutes of the meeting at which the organisation resolved to appoint them as its bankers. In the past I have been the Chairman of 2 different unincorporated associations, with access to the banking facilities, and the treasurer of a registered charity. All these had business bank accounts of various types, which allowed online access for multiple signatories (minimum of two to authorise transactions). I am now working with a food bank operated by a church (a registered charity), and the food bank's financial transactions use the church's bank account.

@grpadli123   Are you under the umbrella of Trussell Trust ?   They will be able to advise.
