Safestyle - wrong door delivered

We ordered 3 windows and a composite door from safestyle before Xmas. There have been a myriad of issues right from the get go and today after weeks and weeks of waiting for an installation after they mismeasured our windows, we get the door and it has the wrong type of glass. They've not installed the door yet, only the windows, they started today but couldn't finish as they didn't have enough materials to finish the door so they left the door with us. I casually went to check it after the fitters left and was horrified to see 80's style glass in the panes of the door. I checked our order form and it said Artic glass, then I Googled arctic glass and it is NOT what we asked for. When the sales guy came we said we wanted the same kind of plain frosted glass in our current door. He said OK and just filled the forms in and we signed. We assumed arctic glass was the type that we currently had as that what he told us and we didn't think he'd get that wrong. So I'm going to ring safestyle tomorrow morning before the door is fitted to complain about the hideous door that is to be installed and I was wondering does anyone know what rights we have?  We were definitely misoled the glass but its a "made to measure door" and i signed saying the order saying arctic glass. If I had seen what arctic glass was I would never ever ever would have agreed to that style. I'm worried I'd paid thousands for a really ugly door I'm not happy with. Help!

Safestyle have delivered the door that is on the order form - you should have looked at glass samples and chosen based on that, rather than relying on the sales guy to pick the glass you wanted.

You could see if they'll switch the glazing, but I imagine that as the door is exactly as specified on the order form, that they'll probably charge for that change (sorry, that's probably not what you want to hear though)

The glass is easily changed, so it's not the end of the world.  The door can go in then the glazed unit can be changed.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

In fairness to the OP, if I said to a salesman that I want one of those, pointed to something, and he says that is absolutely no problem and writes on the order form "midwinter arctic sunshine' - why would I question what its called?

This is my main issue! He showed us no samples, we just said we'd like the same as what we have and he was like "nooooo problem!" And then scribbles whatever down and we trust him. That's our big fail, trusting the sales guy. I do feel stupid and I should have checked so it is an important lesson learned! I'm going to call them when the office opens/fitters arrive to see what can be done, if the panes can be changed as people have suggested (thank you for enlightening me!!) but with a cost, I'll stump up. It's the most horrific glass and can't bare to look at it especially when we have no hall, the door is in our living room!

good luck and I would just stick to the fact that its not what you asked for.  You didnt ask for Arctic, you asked for what is in your existing door.

Good luck.  Safestyle had their own slot on 'Rip Off Britain' earlier this week.

Leave it, it'll soon be back in fashion and you're simply ahead of the curve.

Thanks for everyone's comments! The fitter came and said they'd redo the windows as goodwill gesture and someone will be out next week to fit new glass and I've checked and it's not Arctic this time!!! Hopefully they actually come and do it... I'll reserve judgement on Safestyle until they've come and fixed the issue! I did see the BBC watchdog clip about Safestyle and it didn't fill me with confidence!! The windows seem ok so far though....
  • Hope you get it sorted OP, it sounds a real pane

He should have seen through the salesman's patter.

A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".
