Walnut is a more expensive wood than the other options there, and it's a harder wood to work with. Also, getting hold of timber is difficult and more expensive than say a year ago at the moment. To make a specific design the local guy will need to make up plans, probably create some custom jigs etc. to get everything lining up and symmetrical, all of which will add additional costs for a one off job. I suspect you will need to adjust your expectations of a local craftsman being less costly than a larger company manufactures these beds as a main line of business.2

The unbelievable cheek though wanting £230 for that! I would laugh even more if it came as a flat pack and you had to assemble it yourself 🤣🤣🤣🤣0 -
As an update, going for Get Laid Beds now. Similar bed from solid walnut but for £1000.0

Are you absolutely sure it is SOLID walnut ??
If it is it is unbelievably cheap.
My last king size mattress made in the UK cost me £1600 about 10 years ago.
That was just the mattress.

Arguably you should spend more on the mattress than the frame, as that's the bit you actually sleep on, the frame is just the thing that holds the mattress.

Mass produced beds made in factories source and buy the wood at wholesale prices. They can keep cost down by buying in bulk. The factories have machines set up for each part, the fixtures are stored as standard. You would be paying a skilled tradesman for the hours he takes to travel around and source the right pieces of wood and pay full price. Then he/she would have to find the fixtures and pay individually so more time. That laminated head board pattern is going to be pricey and time consuming. Then of course he or you could be prosecuted for copying the design. A lot of good craftsmen wouldn't do thisThen his time to make the patterns, cut, finish and polish, deliver and put together. Why not use the photo to do a compare on google and see if you can find it a bit cheaper.Beautiful bed. Wonderful design.BTW it's not just walnut but ash. That's twice the search for the appropriate size and type of wood.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I'm not saying that £2k is a sensible price, but it's not at all the same thing as the £230 one.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
