How do I transfer my 3 pay as you go credit to Google's Play Store

Now that 3 have turned their 3-2-1 tariff into 10-10-5 a lot of people are looking at leaving 3. 
The two methods of using up any remaining balance seem to be using it to donate to charities or transferring it to Google's Play Store and it's the second option I'm wondering how to do?

I would imagine its something like going into the Play Store and buying a top-up and choosing your phone provider as the payment method


EDIT: Just tried that, and I could only work out how to buy a Play Pass (or of course apps/games/etc) and not a top-up. so it may no longer be an option, but I'm sure you used to be able to buy gift cards
