Not sure from your original post but are you only using VM for your broadband? If so, as a light user, you might consider ditching the land line altogether and using your mobile phone as a hotspot.0

Like OP I'm a Virgin customer of long standing. Received notification of price increase and thought time to call up and renegotiate. Initially they weren't for doing anything, I pointed out new customers were getting more for less and I'd at least like parity. Was told no so gave them my cancellation notice. Signed up with Sky, worse broadband speed was downside but thought what the heck, it was £20 per month cheaper and I was now getting Sky Sports that I wasn't before.
Come the day Sky contacted Virgin I was contacted by Virgin retentions. After a very pleasant call my broadband speed was doubled, I received a new Tivo box to replace the old one I had upstairs, they added sky sports to my existing TV package and knocked £41 per month off what I was paying previously. The only pain in the backside was trying to cancel the sky engineers installation visit but got there in the end0
