HSBC closes 82 more branches

So those who invest are not allowed a return? The government should perhaps compel banks to share branches? Is it perhaps the case that life is changing, less cash, fewer visits to banks and the network is changing to reflect that? It might be that a small number can't cope with the online world but that number will decline as time goes on. Most bank branches will have gone by 2031 as will most cash transactions!born_again said:HSBC are all about profit & keeping the stakeholders happy. Government should have not allowed banks to give dividends again. Staff are not getting bonuses, despite having to work throughout lockdowns. So why should shareholders get a payout...
It's time that the banks got together and decided on one building in a town that they all shared. Would give everyone who needed branch access and more importantly for the bean counters a nice money saving
Would guess it would stop a lot of people leaving one bank for another as the branches close & the I want to bank in branch group carry on.1 -
Yes, there should be far more bankers bonuses available, what could possibly go wrong......0

No they can. But the Government stopped it last year due to the Pandemic, which strangely we are still in. Far better for that money to be put to good use and to serve customers, rather than the faceless "Stakeholders"giraffe69 said:

These shared branches could perhaps offer additional services too, such as issuing pensions, renewing licences, paying bills, posting parcels, etc - oh, wait....born_again said:It's time that the banks got together and decided on one building in a town that they all shared. Sadly the PO just does not cut it.
Would be no profit selling banks products to gulliblel punters, opps sorry I meant "Meet customers needs".....Life in the slow lane0 -
Regionally Felixstowe is going (can understand), Colchester is going (can't understand) and Ipswich staying.
About the only thing I've done in branch past couple ofyears that I personally couldn't do via Post Office was get a replacement physical secure key. You can get them posted but I wanted one quickly.0 -
It's 2021. Why do people need to visit bank branches? I don't think I've stepped in one for years!0

Deposit or withdraw cash, set up a new account, speak to someone about an account issue etc. If everything is fine you don't need them, of course if there is a problem you are buggered like with most tech.jbrassy said:It's 2021. Lots of people still visit my local HSBC.4 -
I actually prefer paying in cash at a Post Office, it's so quick all you need is a debit card.
In Branch you have to fill out a pay in slip which TBH I find old fashioned and wasteful.1 -
Maybe you haven't tried to pay in cash in a bank branch for quite a while.KxMx said:I actually prefer paying in cash at a Post Office, it's so quick all you need is a debit card.

You might find that you have to put your debit card into a card reader, enter your pin and hand over the money to the cashier.2 -
Presumably you haven’t been in an HSBC branch? They don’t have card readers on the counter. Some of the automated paying in machines take cash with a debit card, but other than that you need a paying in slip. Even if you pay a cheque into a machine you need a paying in slip.General_Grant said:
