Hi, I have received a letter from Debt Recovery Plus on behalf of Smart Parking Ltd issuing an unpaid Parking Charge Notice for £170. It is addressed to the registered keeper however that was not the person driving nor parked in the unauthorised parking. We did not even receive a first letter from Smart Parking themselves within a couple of weeks of the parking charge date and yet they are asking for £170. Shall I take this seriously or ignore? I’ve tried ringing but don’t get through to anyone. Please help

If you did not get the original PCN, check that your V5C is up to date.2 -
We did not even receive a first letter from Smart Parking themselves within a couple of weeks of the parking charge dateIs the address on your V5C (logbook) showing the correct address? Check it, don't guess it. Is the vehicle registered to you, or is it a hire/lease/company one?
DRP are powerless debt collectors. The NEWBIES FAQ sticky, fourth post, shows you exactly how to handle debt collector letters, please read it, we cannot possibly re-type the same information hundreds of times each month. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Of course you take this seriously, these companies can ruin lives. Start by reading the newbies thread, then complain to your MP.
Never ever phone one of these parasites. This could well end up in court, so everything on paper. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -

Tell us what reply you get. I doubt this is a one-off but given that we were promised that Smart had instigated a new system that reconciles that all NTKs were actually posted, ask for proof that yours was.
BTW what the heck possesses rational people to TRY TO RING DRP? Seriously, stop.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
