I can't be the only person disgusted with BT for charging for this supposed service.I had to keep my email address because I had used it for years before they started making me pay for it.
Interested to know how many people like me continue to pay to keep the address

Are you currently with BT for your landline and broadband?
They announced about charging for keeping BT email addresses a long time ago (years). Why not create a new email address (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo etc.) and start moving everything over to that? These days there's no reason at all to keep an ISP's email address.Jenni x2 -
Why do you refer to it as a "supposed service"? It is a real service, not a supposed one.
It costs money to keep e-mail servers up and running so if you are not paying BT to provide your internet service, why should they provide a free e-mail service.
Yes, I know providers such as Yahoo and AOL provide a free service but the costs for this are covered by companies paying to advertise on the e-mail sites.
Why not take a few weeks to make a full list of all of your e-mail contacts and companies that you have your BT mail registered with then when this is complete, switch to one of the free mail providers?3 -
So you no longer pay BT, but expect them to provide you with a service for free? Now you feel disgusted that you are not entitled to something for free? Hmm...4

What's that saying? If you're not paying for the product, you are the product.
It's suited BT to give you free email for years. Now their business model is different and they want to charge. If you don't want to pay, take your business elsewhere like you'd do with any product or service you no longer want to pay for. I can't see why them not wanting to provide you with a free email service any more is disgusting?0 -

Interested to know how many people like me continue to pay to keep the addressNo well posted for years so i am not disgusted , more disgusted with those who leech off my BT services .Its not a Consumer Right for you to have a service you don't pay for .Its a BT email address and does not belong to you .As per many posts on here over the last couple of years most have moved to a non ISP provider not hard to do .Some who use BT email for business have continued paying until they are ready to move .0 -
Never get why people rely on their ISP for emails which is always a FREE service while you are with them. Seems only fair that when you leave & are no longer using any of their other paid services, that they either charge you for the service or simply delete the email account.
Just get a Gmail email acc or one of the many others available.Life in the slow lane0 -
I've been lucky that BT don't seem to have noticed that I left them years ago. But when I left BT, I made a point of migrating all my accounts and contacts to my own email account, that I pay for. Every time I got an email, I decided if I wanted to stay in contact, and if so, I made an update. I now ignore my current ISPs email service.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.2
