They really can't give out information to the 'wrong' person as the OP doesn't have a contract with them right now.
- This is a complex matter.
- A thorough investigation is needed.
- Demand letters paused till at least March end or until this case is sorted out.
- They need documentation showing proof of ownership, tenancy, other bills, in order to investigate further.
Proof of ownership and other bills are not a problem, no tenancy agreements as I am the owner occupier. I am slightly reluctant to send copies of title deeds to someone, am I being overly cautious? I guess I am, they can be obtained at the Land Registry but there is a charge of approximately £30.
I am very surprised that this is dragging on, they are carrying out due diligence now but seemed to lack that when they arranged a transfer with Mr X. I will add the email was pleasant and considerate.
As always, happy to hear your thoughts. Thanks0 -
Hi, finally heard back from Octopus. In summary they've stated:

Proof of ownership should be irrelevant, it's proof of occupancy that's the primary issue, a council tax bill should suffice. Proof you've been on the electoral roll since whenever could also be provided by your LA. Depending on how long ago you bought your home, a copy of any correspondence from solicitor or estate agent showing completion. I would not send any copy of deeds, I'd just tell them bluntly that is over stepping the mark and could compromise personal security, identity theft, whatever. You have no proof that they will look after such information securely. Remind them that you'll go to the ombudsman if they persist in being difficult if you need to.
