Offering to leave things not stated on property information form

I stated on my property information form that I was taking all free standing white goods. I now no longer need to take them. I was going to give them away but it occurred to me it might be nice to offer them to the buyer for free but it’s quite late in the day as all being well I’ll exchange next week.
Can I ask my solicitor to offer it via their solicitor at this stage or maybe ask my estate agent to ask them?
Not sure if it’s allowed at this late stage and I’m thinking they probably have already sorted appliances but it might be nice to offer.

  • And, if they say no thanks, Facebook marketplace is a good way of getting rid of them quickly if you post them as free to first person to collect!
  • Since the sale is almost at exchange, I can't see any problem with speaking direct to the purchaser. For some reason, most agents try to keep buyer and seller apart. Failing that a message via the agent to avoid you being charged for their removal in the event your buyer doesn't want them.
If you can make direct contact with the buyers, then some whatsapp pics etc a much easier way rather than going through the solicitors.

Thanks sounds like a plan. I’m sure someone will appreciate some free appliances.
I wouldn’t leave them without their agreement.

Of course you can ask them! We offered to leave wardrobes & matching cupboards in bedrooms as we didn’t want to store them following failed purchase. Buyer was happy. If they didn’t want them, we would have donated to BHF who collected the rest of our unwanted furniture.
  • I checked BHF and they aren’t currently collecting. I was wondering if the current lockdown rules allow people to collect items from your home? I guess I could leave them outside the front door at an agreed time but unsure if this is breaking rules?
  • I think our local Freecycle has shut down with this lockdown. Could you put outside with a notice saying 'free' - I've seen this being done locally.

IIRC they can’t collect during National lockdown. Nor can anyone else?
They collected from us 23rd  & 30th Dec (so we had a table & chairs for Christmas dinner. New Year’’s Eve was interesting😉)
They said they could only collect from one room each time but the people who came weren’t bothered & would have taken anything from anywhere!

  • Offer them to the buyers. It depends what situation your buyers in, if they have their own. We are FTB in rented at the minute. The vendor offered to leave the cooker, washing machine and fridge and we accepted because we don’t own any yet. Ours is early in the process, however we would not buy anything until exchange or later anyway because nothing is guaranteed until then.
  • Definitely offer to the buyers!

FB local selling groups are a good place to start if the buyers don't want them. Some have closed for now, plenty still allowing adverts, as is gumtree.

My seller offered me all the contents, but I was only interested in the white goods due to furnishing the rental I was in. A few days before exchange / completion my solicitor asked if I wanted a couple of furniture bits for free as the sellers hadn't been able to get those out. I gladly accepted them and hoped it was the nice wardrobe / chest of drawers, whilst they weren't, they definitely came in handy and it will be a few years before they go to charity or someone local.
