Covid test refund for cancelled flight

Hi I had a flight booked through Go to Gate that was ticketed by Aeromexico and operated by KLM. I needed a Pcr-test to board the flight, paid £120 for it and then had the flight cancelled by KLM a day before travel. Should the airlines refund us for tests they required us to take if they cancel? All parties said they would not be responsible for refunding this but it seems a bit unfair. Noticed a lot of people asking this on twitter

If this was essential travel for business then would your employer reimburse?
alternatively have you asked your travel insurance? (although depending on excess this may not be worth claiming)

For all we know there could have been some back and forth over this for some time. The OP is posting about it now doesn't mean it happened in the past few days.

Good luck claiming anything if you booked through Gotogate. They are an absolute cowboy operation.
    Save £2,400 tuition fees - £2,321.04 as of 08/24
Pay off credit card by December 2024 - £1,450/£2,000

Was it not the country you were travelling to that required the test?
  • You won’t get a refund from the test company, as they provided the test. You won’t get one from the airline, as they didn’t mandate the test - that was the country you were travelling to.
Ultimately it’s a no-win situation that an awful lot of people are going to face for a long time!

It’s the same as if you had a pre holiday haircut/ beautician appointment. You’ve had the benefit, even if you wouldn’t have bothered had you known your trip would be cancelled.

It's the same as if you had needed a visa to enter your destination country.  If the airline cancelled the flight it isn't their responsibility to refund the cost of getting your visa.
  • Hi,
I am quite new to this Forum thing. I am not sure if it is OK to continue from an existing thread for a related question.
Can you give some advise or share any similar experience on the Covid test refund that is getting booked nowadays for Day 2 and Day 8 testing when you enter the UK?
I ordered four tests from one company with a cost of £160 each.. Now that our plans has changed, I wanted to check if I can get a refund. The company's website and the bloke on the phone told me that they don't give a refund.. I was told that they would discard the tests even if I sent them back.. But he also said that the tests are usable up to 3 months (if my plans change).
I checked some other companies and they do provide refund.. Anything I can do to force the company for a refund?

Hi Elthamdad and welcome.  It is always better to start your own thread but no harm done.   Your answer is actually in what you agreed to when you booked.   If the company you booked states no refunds, then no refunds it is.   Not really a lot you can do as they have provided what you paid for.  If you don't use them then that really isn't their concern.   You would not be able to do a chargeback for same reason.   Sorry but not a lot more anyone can say?
