I wouldn't even be bothering with the insurance claim , just buy the glass and fit it yourself, won't work out much difference and saves the hike in insurance premiums for the next five years
Encouraging the OP to commit fraud is a clear breach of the forum's rules.
    Oh behave yourself.

I hope you report yourself to the local constabulary every time you infringe the Road Traffic Act.

The insurance company will likely view this as a damaged car window, done by a malicious action and not by yourself. You were not involved in an accident. You have acted above board and reported it to the police. Now you need to get it fixed as cheaply as possible. If it is the glass only that needs replacing in the car side window, then I would tell your insurance company that is all that is required. It maybe cheaper for you to get it done yourself by a reputable glass replacement service- they could do it in the road outside your home, or your insurance may cover it. Glass replacement is often treated as an easy to remedy area by insurance companies.

If the op were to give the full facts, why do you discount it being theft?

I don't generally infringe the RTA. I do sometimes offend against the road Traffic Offenders Act (speeding), but no I don't report myself. I've been caught often enough, thanks.
However, unlike fraud , you don't go to jail for speeding.

And, if you get a speeding ticket, it's a minor ding on your insurance for a few years.

Being caught lying to insurers...? <wince>
Policy cancelled. Possible IN10. Possible claim bill handed back to you. AND a permanent declaration of a cancelled policy...
  • I suspect that the insurance will perceive it as a window broken for the purposes of theft no matter whether the OP claims for stolen items.

Perhaps that depends on the speed a person is caught doing? ;)

Do you have any examples? Of someone jailed for excess speed rather than dangerous driving.

I don't need to - I never stated nor implied what the driver would be charged with. :)

So a pointless post given you don't go to prison or get a criminal record for speeding whereas you do with fraud.
