  • I'm amazed no one has mentioned you might want to check how the wasps are getting in and seal it up

Wasps are pretty small and roofs need airflow. I wouldn't be sealing it up.

Perhaps because the OP mentioned getting the property re-roofed in about 6 months?

as others have said, wasps don't come back to their nests so if it is empty then it will be fine to leave it.  we found a huge one in the loft and we just left it there.

I had a wasps nest in my eaves, which didnt cause any problems during the summer. Now I have discovered lots of hibernating queen wasps in the attic. What would anyone use to remove them?
    Thanks

Yes and that 6 months will probably be a year to 2 years

nigem, can you describe what you have seen that you believe are "hibernating queen wasps"?  It is not unusual to find moribund wasps in the roof-space as the nest dies off.  They are alive - just - and some will still be capable of stinging if you pick them up, but not necessarily queens and not necessarily hibernating.  Next year's queens should have hatched and left the nest long ago and unlikely to be easily found.
