Thanks everyone, by logging into router and running diagnostics it states I have WiFi issues but the website doesn’t give any advice from there, not particularly helpful! I can’t see any way of looking at the speed when logged into the router.I’m going to try and get a PS4 close enough to connect an Ethernet cable to the router to test speed then run a test on Ookla as the Virgin site recommends. Thanks for your comments everyone.0

fred246 said:I don't understand what people are wanting to do with all this speed. 2.97 should be fine for watching HD video. 13-26 should be absolutely fine. Maybe I am just too old.
If there are multiple users who are using services that require a reasonable upload speed (such as for conference calling and possibly home schooling) then the poor upload speed can become a problem and can lead to quite a bit of lag or buffering.0 -
My Virgin speed is around 400Mbps via ethernet but can drop to around 50Mbps on Wi-Fi, dependent on several factors.
As others have said, it's no point taking your Wi-Fi speed as the guaranteed speed levels.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

My biggest issue is upstairs - laptop connection lagging and my son’s PS4 dropping out of online games, particularly Fortnite. PS4 downstairs doesn’t have any problems. Our Virgin router is probably 10 years old and we also have fire doors (think they have a layer of plywood in) in the lounge and my sons room so I wonder if that’s an issue too??0

Try 5 ghz connection for upstairs .That fails new router or wifi extender .0

Upstairs wifi, further away, more structure between router and PS4...less signal more prone to the probkems mentioed earlier.Get back into the router and see if you can see advanced or admin sections to find settings and log. Bits of the log give real speed info between you and virgin! Is your router/hub one of those shown on debit's link above?0

Personally I don't like Virgin, I remember my friend had terrible problems with WiFi speeds, and the minute they changed to Plusnet they get great wifi all around the house.
Hence why I recommended switching earlier.
Its easy to switch these days, and Plusnet are so helpful over the phone to sort stuff out if needed.1 -
