O/S Daily Friday 15 January 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Wet cold start to the day - looks like a frost on top of the continuous rain that turned sleety then back to rain - roads will be like a ice rink!
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was bacon, egg, saute potatoes, mushrooms and beans. Tonight will be something quick and easy. I have some packets of grains/cous cous that need using up I will make something from those for my dinner.
Yesterday I was very productive although I'd slept in an awkward position and had neck ache all day - I finished up dosing on pain relief and I managed to have a swap about of pillows and feel more comfortable this morning although still a bit achy. I was very productive yesterday I'm very pleased with what I got done. Housework was done first thing and I just was continually putting in wash loads, and getting them dry. I put some new bed linen on our bed - which was nice to get into last night. I spent a while cleaning out and sorting the fridge - all now very clean and sparkly - the out of date items have gone - don't like throwing things away but if it's out of date and open it has to go. I also spent some time meal planning and looking to see where I could cut some costs - I have lots of food in freezers and store cupboards that needs using not just sitting in there, so am trying each week to make a couple of dishes that use something up, yesterday I had some pastry in the fridge and a packet cookie mix, so made both of those up - DH and DS1 enjoyed some of those as their dessert with a cuppa after dinner last night. I have had a big sort out in the fridge and got all the produce in containers as I find that it stops items getting missed I can clearly see what I have.
I also had to visit the SM yesterday as the day before whilst at work the sole came almost completely off 1 of my boots - I was going to visit the shoe repairer who has a kiosk at the SM, but when I thought about it the boots were 4+ years old and a new sole would be anything up to a £10 and they were quite worn, so I decided to have a look at the SM if they had any boots - they have a big sale on - so I bought 3 pairs - sounds excessive but my spare pair of boots have a small split in them also which I didn't discover until the other boots sole came off. All were in the sale, so 3 different pairs for £35 - 2 for work, general use and 1 pair a more going out boot. The only others I found online were over £50, so we'll see whether I should have spent the extra on 1 pair or not! The cost was 2 at £10 per pair and 1 at £15 per pair.
Today I'm going to sort my desk as the papers are building up again. I'm working tomorrow so will potter about.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, it's another cold and frosty one here. You were busy yesterday NMLC, sorting and tidying - I'm trying to do similar, using packets and tins instead of buying more.Your boots sounded quite bargainous though, I live in boots at this time of year. Hope you can get done what you need to today.Yesterday was an ok day, though the weather wasn't good. We still went out for a walk down to the park. The path running alongside the river was flooded in one place , it does sometimes, and the swans were all on the grass, poking around or just sitting there. There were plenty of people around as usual, it's a popular place. It started to sleet eventually, and we'd been strolling about for half an hour or so, so we came home. Not a lot going on today, I might walk up to the little Sains for bread. I tend to forget about that shop. Not much further in the other direction there's a Morries, which is much bigger and I tend to go there, but there's always the danger of strolling round the aisles buying more than I went in for, and i'm trying not to do that.I thought I might put another pocket in my dressing gown, there's only one and I like two. I know I've got some fleece in my cupboard so I think I'll hunt it out and do that, I've been thinking about it for a while. It won't match exactly, but it will be let into the side seam, so hardly visible. That's it from me. Ruby hope your dressing is ok and not giving you any pain, also thinking of your DD, that horrible man is certainly putting her through it.Also thinking of others, Marie, Bella, and DP1, I think you said your daughter was in hospital, thoughts to her. (hope I've got that right)Anyway I'll stop nattering on and hope everyone has a good day - take care folks14

Morning All
Cold this morning, snow still on the ground but we haven't had any more and it hasn't rained so shouldn't be too bad out there. Hoping to go for a walk with DD and the little one, we'll see.
I did a bit of sewing yesterday, a bit of mending left to do today, I'll need to get a project going if this lockdown is to last much longer.
Hoping the poorlies are feeling better, take care. XX13 -
Some great bargains for your boots NMLC - they will keep you going for a while!
It's a thick frost here today after a lot of rain yesterday - I actually don't think I've seen so much rain here in years!
I'm working from home today then off for the weekend. I have a SM delivery tomorrow so will do a meal plan today - I don't do an actual meal plan, just plan what meals there will be and ensure we have what we need for them. Tomorrow is cleaning the garage freezer day so I will take a look and see what can be used from there for the meal plan. I stocked up on washing detergent last week so won't need that.
I have some birthday presents to wrap so shall do that today so they are ready.
Just 1 bed to change and wash and a load of towels so not too bad.
Working from home wise - I've not got too much work to do today but I like to get ahead on next week and make a plan of what tasks I will do when - it seems to help me keep focused whilst working at home. I also like to check my finances on a Friday so that is a job for today.
It seems I have really just shared a vague to do list which seems a lot for a quiet day at home! I'm planning to log off from work at 4pm to have a nice long bath and then read my kindle!
Have a great day everyone.

Morning all
Very cold here with a thick frost, I have turned the heating on for a while so warming up now. I have a dressing change this morning so OH will take me an then we will go shopping afterwards, I have a list to get for mum so we will do a trolly each.
I finally managed to get mums sleeping pills last night so I hope she slept well, we took her a crusty loaf and some custard tarts yesterday and she managed to eat some bread and cheese which is good.
My brother has gone for a covid test today as he is having a camera down the throat monday so do some investigation, he managed to tell his kids some of what is happening, only that there is a problem and they are investigating, two of the boys have a learning difficulty so will accept this but the other two will suspect I think, my brother said it was unbelievably hard to sit there and tell them
Not sure about dinner tonight but will get something today.
Marie thinking of you xx
Have good days all xx13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. You put me to shame you are always so busy.
Well the snow yesterday was relentless, it came down thickly all day and finally stopped at 4.30 pm. Needless to say our road was snowbound in no time so we had no traffic, mail, bus or deliveries up here all day. The gritter and plough finally made it once it stopped and the road was passable with care. Looking at the pots at the back there looks to be about 6/7 inches piled on top of them. Maybe my deliveries can be delivered safely today but there is no rush for them. Glad it wasn't a grocery delivery day! It's currently minus 4 but set to reach minus 1 soon! I think all this snow will be around for some time to come.
After lunch DD and the girls stopped by for a doorstep chat on their way to the sledging field. I was invited to join them but declined!! DD sent me little videos of them all whizzing down the hill. Looked great fun until you had to drag your sledge back to the top again! Eventually they were all glad to be back home and in dry clothes warming up with hot chocolate.
First job I should go out and clear the snow off the front steps as I don't want any delivery people crashing down on them. Then the Friday Tidy awaits if I cba. I made the usual headstart yesterday by doing the kitchen and bathroom. and steaming the floors.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. You are all in my thoughts. Take care one and all and stay safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc. You have been much more effective and busy than me and bargainous boots too!
Yesterday it rained on and off most of the day but dry today - so far.To celebrate mot getting their feathers soggy, small birds are having a great time on their table.
Last night, our neighbours had a geodome installed, it looks wonderful and there is a sofa in it, at least I think that's what it is and a blackboard welcoming ms neighbour to her birthday spa!
I have discovered one (1) crocus but the rest have either been eaten by the squirrels or perhaps just being super slow and in addition to the daffodils and narcissi that I planted in pots and here and there, some stealth daffodils have appeared under a bush. If it stays dry, I need to get put and fill a pot or two for seeds from a plant that I'd like to propagate.
I will do a bit of the Friday Tidy but in a lackadaisical way. The kitchen and bathroom have had a clean and I did beds earlier in the week but the stairs and landing look very fuzzy and how that has happened in the space of a few days is a mystery, we don't have a pet. Perhaps everyone is moulting.
TA that's a pain about the injection, my long ago cat hated the carrier but my little dogs used to love the vet and the veterinary nurses and would start jumping about and squeaking before we got there because they knew they woukd get a big fuss. I used to meet a friend for park walks with our dogs and that was just past the vet's surgery so I never quite knew if they were excited about the vet or the park as the squeaks started at the same point.
RR I am thinking of you and your family, of MeanMarie and bellabella - and of all of us having a great tough time at present.
Hope today is tolerable at least.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning all - hope all that have snow are keeping warm and dry its grotty and wet here so can't wait to take doggo out !!! (not)
Trying to avoid working this morning but have something unavoidable at 10! Having a nice cuppa of red bush tea at the mo and making a keto pound cake (well its cooling) hoping that having a treat now and again keeps me sane since starting back on keto this week been having/adding lots of salt so haven't had any keto flu or any thing strange - just hunger pangs for christmas cake/bread !!!!! (habit really) I really do have a good 20lb to get off this year and stay healthy now in my 50's
Will try a bit of a run depending how muddy sloppy it is with doggo at lunch
Trying to avoid any painkillers also at the mo so just using a hot water bottle for period cramps - yuck. Will be getting some nice HM soup at lunch time. Yesterday popped into local shop and got some half price bread & bagels for the freezer so that will keep the kids happy. Otherwise its a bit of a cleaning and planning weekend coming up - hopefully not too spendy just a trip to butcher for some decent meat over the weekend and keeping away from everyone. Am a bit worried about catching the new virus variant - not sure what the numbers are here in East Yorks but heard on the news Leeds is 20% of new variant so its only a matter of time so will be keeping away from everyone!! Especially now ICUs and hospitals are at capacity /over capacity its particularly worrying when you keep seeing younger people struggling with it on the news. Anyway going to stay positive minded and stay away from people. Hope everyone else can do the same

Morning all. Did the hock [ delicious] with mustard mash and kale, and there's a bit of meat left to pick off it enough for a sandwich or another meal with of course, the leftover mash...I had to use half plain flour and half gram flour in the cake, I ran out of plain so need to get some out of the freezer after. I went with Dorset apple cake in the end with a couple of tweaks [ added mixed spice, changed soft light brown for demerera because thats what I had]. Went out yesterday to the veg shop! Huzzah! I thoroughly enjoyed that! I enjoyed also that it was like a half barn with windows, unheated, plenty of fresh air and amazingly, plenty of choice too. And that I was the only one in there.Today, maybe some washing, empty the dishwasher, think of something for supper, try and get microphone working, keep the fire in because it's an odd freezing day out of a bunch of warm ones.Topsy, hope you're OK. Hester, Bella, hugs. Marie, hope you're OK too. On thing I didn't say was thank you to all of you for the last year, the support and the threads really, kept me sane
So hugs to all again and enjoy the fresh Friday....

Morning
Cold and icy here this morning but no snow yet sadlysaying that watching the scenes in Halifax with a bus sliding sideways down a road towards cars then maybe not. The last thing our NHS needs right now is car accidents or falls on top of covid
Edited tomorrows food delivery and got it as low as I could go without paying for delivery. Got lots of veg including some kale which Ive had before but wasn't fond but I have a recipe to make chinese seaweed which I love so trying again. No doubt that will take away any goodness but its air fry not deep fry so maybe not too bad. Going to shop from my freezer for the week as there's plenty to go at there. Next job some meal planning
No real plans today apart from the excitement of bringing the bin in of course. Food will be mackerel and toast
Take care out there everyone
