When company ignores you

Hi all

long story short dealing with a nightmare company. Who have ignored me yet acknowledged my argument only in updating their website to backwardly cover their tracks whilst ignoring me- mid-sold

spoke to citizens advice I’ve evidence that they’ve breached a few rights so the advice is a final letter to the company stating this then they’ll take it to trading standards as they agree traders in the wrong

Now when doing some research online im seeing online information state that trading standards can’t necessarily get your money back/push them to action the refund etc?

Im going with the process as advised by C.advice but slightly nervous that despite all evidence showing the trader is wrong, I may not necessarily get my money back? (£1k)

Should I be perusing another route along side trading standards? Just curious to hear others understanding of how to better ensure this results in me getting a refund (no service was delivered so I’m out of pocket with nothing to show)

thanks all! I’m learning a heck of a lot about consumer rights during this process that’s for sure

  • First what is the problem - what have they done wrong or not done that you paid £1k for?
Then tell us how you paid - debit card, credit card or bank transfer?
You are right trading standards cannot help you personally to get your money back - but if they have broken trading laws they could prosecute the firm. (Not on your behalf unfortunately).

Ah it sounds like I should maybe also be doing something then like small claims?
I bought a course as per their website, when turning up for the course it wasn’t what they advertised so i stopped going immediately and raised it. They ignored me then just changed their website description to back track (I have dated print screens before they did this) they also refuse to share recorded phone calls which has be specifically confirming what it is before I buy it, they are the ones who stated they have them via email on my one and only reply from them weeks ago. Now they ignore my calls. I used finance.
  • How did you pay for the course?

Have you contacted the accrediting body for the course and started a claim via MCOL as advised on your previous post?

Trading standards won't get your money back that is not their purpose, they may prosecute the company for breaking trading laws. You need to either claim from credit or debit card if possible if not letter before action and small claims

Yep- accrediting body were hopeless ‘we don’t make recommendations to providers’ (Which I blatantly wasn’t asking for and corrected them on) was the reply 3 times. They were quick to show they wanted no involvement, really disappointed.

Not the claim yet. Citizens advice wanted one final letter (giving them another 14 days which wasn’t what I really wanted to hear as I’ve given these guys plenty of time)

but none the less, update through now! I had sent a query to the financial ombudsmen many weeks ago when both the finance company and provider kept ignoring my communication or responding with ‘not much we can do’ asking if I could go down this route. Turns out the ombudsmen pressed the finance company for a response to the emails I had sent to them asking for help with the trader/referencing my full complaint to the trader....who now have just emailed stating they are processing the refund with apologies ‘They would never compromise customer satisfaction’....

    What a relief!

thanks again to all on this forum, I wouldn’t have known where to go!
