Has anyone had a water meter fitted and found they actually paid less on their bill?

  • Cutting from 54 m3 to 40m3 per year only saved about £40.
when you get to being a low user the standard charge obviously stays the same and takes up a much larger % of the bill.
  • I am thinking of getting a water meter, I will be living alone in a 2 bed semi... I don't quite understand how it works for me though as Essex and Suffolk Water are my water company, but Anglian Water do the sewerage - so would the meter measure water going both ways? How does it work?

I’m in Essex and have exactly the same thing, one company for water and the other one for sewage.
They don’t meter the sewage, they estimate it based on the amount of metered water you take into the house. If you have septic tanks, soakaways etc you can provide evidence and get a further discount.

Thanks, so does the Sewerage company get the metered amount from the Water company? Or do you tell them both the readings?

We moved a couple of years ago so I don't know how much i would pay if it wasn't a meter but i pay £45 a month which i don't think is bad as there are 6 of us.
In our old home we had the same with one company supplying the water and the other dealing with the sewage.

I am changing to a water meter this coming friday. I was widowed July 19, so I  live alone. My current bill is approx £376 a year so hoping to save. The lady on the phone said the average for one person is £300. She said if for any reason they cannot fit the meter (under the kitchen sink) they will reduce my bill to that. She also said that I can change back in 2 years if find I am not making savings. She felt confident that I would. I dont have a lawn to water, I dont wash my car at home. I only have a shower. I use my washer about twice a wk, unless my Daughter and family are staying, that is usually 2 wks at Christmas, and 3 or 4 weekends throughout the year

There is only one reading: water usage. For Anglian Water, the sewerage charge is based on the assumption that 90% of your usage exits via the sewerage system.
