Taking laptop back to factory settings

I need to replace my laptop and as my wife has changed her laptop and still has her previous one I thought it would be a good idea to use her previous HP laptop rather than spend 3 or 4 hundred pounds. The only thing on it she wants to keep are some photos so I have copied them onto a memory stick so there is nothing on it she wants. It is loaded with Windows 8.1.What do I need to do to get it back to factory status and will Windows 8 remain on there.

He means what exact model (part number) is the HP laptop? (Look underneath - there's probably a label with details. If it's got Windows 8 then it must be a few years old). That will let people understand how best to help you.
The Techie Stuff board is probably a better place for this question.Jenni x0 -
