I asked them.  They've come back to me to say they are unable to change the date.

    Agree with all the above.
Out of interest, what date did your tenancy start (date you 'moved in' is irrelevant as might be diferent)? What happened regarding rent between tenancy start date and the 7th?
Any idea why rent date was set fo 7th?
It seems entire building is set to pay rent on 7th. My tenancy start date was not on or around the 7th of the month.

Then makes sense to maintain the status quo. Easier for administration.  Too many variables simply add time and expense.

If they say no, have a bank account for bills only.

X amount from paid account to bills account to cover all bills.

It's actually not a case of me not having funds set aside to cover rent so it's not necessary to pay rent and bills from a different account.  It just would have been easier to cough up the cash on pay day rather than one week before.

Then you change employer and your pay day changes again.

“It just would have been easier to cough up the cash on pay day rather than one week before.”

From this comment of yours I am wondering if you are a little concerned that you may overspend during the month and be short of the rent when it is due.  In which case perhaps the suggestion of putting the rent into a separate account when you get paid is sensible.

In the meantime ask your corporate LL if you can change the rent due date, they may say yes

I understand where the OP is coming from ...I've got all my DDs to come out on the 1st of the month so I know on the 2nd everything in my account is mine.
Don't dismiss the idea of a separate 'bills' account though - (whilst I appreciate that this may not be easily doable depending on your finances) if you have a separate bills account, over a period of time try and save the equivalent of a month's rent. Once you have it you can change the DD so that the rent comes out of that account which you can replenish when you get paid.
The advantage of this is should your paydate ever change, for whatever reason, you've still got enough money to pay your rent on time.

No danger of me overspending -- I'm v disciplined.  Just would have made life a bit easier.  The landlord's said no so I'll just leave things as they are.
