Ryanair will not refund the travel voucher used on cancelled flight

I had a flight booked and cancelled with less than 24 notice with Ryanair - for the bookeng I used £80 from Travel voucher they gave me for an April flight cancellation (wich I have taken cash for this now!!) and a top up payment of £60 by credit card. I have just received an email that they will refund the money for the credit card payment but (quote) 'The travel voucher issued has been voided and can no longer be used'. What are my options to claim this money back? It was initially a credit card payment for April flight - so why should they not refund it? Thanks

Usually they will refund via the method paid.  So that should be a £60 card refund and an £80 travel voucher credit.  Are you sure they haven't issued new travel voucher/credit to your Ryanair account?
  • I have checked my ryanair account - no voucher. This is the text of the email :(
    Dear Customer,
We acknowledge your request for a refund in lieu of a travel voucher for your unused booking. We confirm that your refund request has been processed back to the form of payment used to pay for your booking. Your issuing bank will take 5-7 working days to process this refund amount back to your account.
The amount refunded to your credit/debit card/method of payment is
    GBP-60.00 Payment Method:MC
Please note the travel voucher issued has been voided and can no longer be used.

That sounds to me like they are referring to a travel voucher raised in respect of that card payment.  Ryanair have basically worked like this when cancelling flights:

    1) Flight cancelled
    2) Email sent to customer saying flight cancelled
    3) Travel voucher issued by way of a refund
    4) Customer must contact Ryanair if they want a cash refund instead.  At which point they cancel the travel voucher and issue a card refund.

So I think that might be what the email was referring to, they'd issued a travel voucher for £60 which has been cancelled, and the card refunded.

So you now need to track down what's happened to the voucher for £80.  Have a read back through your cancellation emails from them have they referred to vouchers or credits?  If you can't find anything, perhaps try Ryanair online chat as a starting point?
  • Aha! Bagand96, this makes sense - I found the email offering the voucher for £60 or cash, where I selected cash refund. This email states: 'Please be advised if you part paid your booking with a gift voucher, this voucher is available to use until it expires. If you part paid with travel credit this has been added back to your myRyanair account.'
So as you say, I should now expect to see the £80 credit or voucher in my Ryanair balance. I will give it few days and if not there, follow up - at least I have the right email now! Thank you!
  • Not sure how you got on with this we are facing the same issue with top up payment received today but they seem to have forgotten the voucher value of more than £200 we first emailed with no response. I found a link on there site to claim for a refund so filled the details on there including the original flight reference not the rebook. https://onlineform.ryanair.com/ie/en/cash-refund I then contacted them through there social media team on Facebook messenger and after going through the chat bot I was put in touch with a human. After explaining the problem she told me the refund was in the queue will be paid back to the original credit card within 3 to 5 weeks I asked for confirmation it was for the 200+ voucher amount and she confirmed it so fingers crossed one of the methods work.
