O/S Daily Wednesday 13 January 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cold frosty start to the day - rain forecast later - continuing for the coming days.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here, DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was was chicken in a creamy chicken sauce with mushrooms and veg rice. I cooked it as a slow cooker meal all day in my new cooker, it was lovely but menfolk said they prefer the way the chicken cooks in a pot in the oven, I can see what they mean, just all a learning curve on how to use the new cooker - it does so many things! Tonight will be LO's from Sunday's roast, roast pork, and yorkshires are the only LO's, so I'll need to prep some potatoes to mash, carrots, broc, mushy peas and gravy.
Work yesterday was a nightmare at times but got it sorted in the end. The meetings start today regarding the next stage of the restructure - hopefully we can find out some more relevant info. Again after this week I'm looking forward to my days off but am working Saturday morning. I have quite a few chores I need to get done on my days' off.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all up with the larks this morning so I hope to get some bits done today I need to clean the glass on the doors where DH painted and clean the UPVC front and porch doors that is todays task so i am going to be positive and hopeful I need to call the window people to book a service call as a couple of bits of plastic need replacing on the windows and doors this can all be done at a safe distance from the outside of the house so no issues there. The weather looks cold and we have been forecast rain all day so dog walks will be nice and short today.
Dumpling sorry to hear of Steves dads passing .
Ruby I hope that the little s**t pled guilty so your DD doesn't have to go to court .
Nmic fingers crossed you get some more info on the restructuring all this being in limbo isn't good
Marie I am thinking of you and hoping you have managed to see someone for a chat
Sending out some massive hugs to all those missing their families right now x
Right have a good day stay safe and warm xxSlava Ukraini13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The mild spell didn't last long, we are back in the minus's with a thick frost and more snow is forecast. Oh I am sick of winter. And an even sillier o'clock wakening this morning, I am sick of those too!
I am beginning to dread the vet visits as Sparkle turns into a wild cat when it's time to go in the carrier. Against the rules but DS had to come in and help pin her down or we would have been late. He was scratched to bits! It was the usual steroid injection for her when we finally got there. It's a year this week since I adopted her from the rescue and OMG it's cost me a fortune with the all too regular vet visits, accessories and essentials (and non-essentials!) I shall be round with the begging bowl shortly!
The spring clean yesterday got as far as cleaning the cupboard out under the sink! A good few near empty sprays etc were disposed of.so it looks less cluttered. Today I want to rearrange the appliance cupboard and move rarely used items to the top and regularly used ones lower down as I seem to be in and out with the step stool all too often.
Have a good day folks if you can. ((HUGS)) for all in need. RR I hope all went well for your DD yesterday and she is finally rid of the scumbag. Thinking of the poorlies, especially MARIE. Take care one and all and stay safe (and sane) x

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc. Hope you get news soon and that it is good news. We bought a slow cooker a few weeks ago but so far have not much liked the results, things seem not to have the depth of flavour that we get from more conventional cooking.
Usually here we seem to get similar weather to TA's area but today we have reached the plus temperatures - only just though, it is 1° and drizzling.
Managed to energise myself yesterday to do some not very interesting jobs so at least those are done for now. More to do today, things do seem to get covered in dust rather fast in this house, the bathroom seems somehow to attract a lot of it and I don't know why. And windowsills, I am looking at you.
Another night of patchy sleep but at least I did get some sleep, more a series of linked naps.
My mse bits are that we has sausages and mash yesterday and I saved one of my sausages for a cold sausage sandwich for lunch and I ordered birdseed which has arrived and appears the same as my normal brand but a much bigger quantity for a slightly lower price - this was buying it by the litre rather than by weight. It was hard to envisage the quantity until it arrived.
RR hope all went well yesterday and Bellabella you are in my thoughts, as are Dunpling's Steve, Marie and Hester.
I hope everyone has a decent day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Good morning folks. Not a bad start to the day, we have plus degrees though it seems that snow is making its way here.Sadly I'm not meeting up with my good friend for our Wednesday breakfast. ☹️ We decided against it even though the law allows it, the risk just now isn't worth it. I will have to do some shopping this morning but will keep well away from others.Yesterday I had a lovely chat to another long lost friend / colleague. I'm not one for chatting on the phone but this was so good. Perhaps this situation is bringing us all closer again whilst being forced apart. Even got a Christmas card from ex-OH in which he'd written a whole load, never been heard off before. The paperwork got scanned and shredded yesterday so I'm feeling slightly virtuous as opposed to guilty about being idle.TA - could the vet give you something to calm Sparkle down pre-basketing? My long gone cat wasn't fond of the basket but didn't go mental at it. I left it open and close to her usual bed all the time, sometimes she even slept in it, or the nearest empty box!
Time to move. I hope that everyone is doing at least OK. Happy Wednesday to all.12 -
Morning All
I've just been out to throw some bits out for the birds, the decking is sheet ice and it's sleeting as we speak. Not looking like a very good day at all. I was going to go out for a walk and some supplies but I can manage without so a day at home it is, that's my working week finished, yesterday was fairly quiet after Monday's surge of activity.
Hoping it was good news for your DD Ruby and the weasel is out of your lives.
Sorry for Steve's loss dumpling.
Thinking of you Marie.
Right, I'm off to do nothing all day, take care. XX13 -
Good morning, there's a hard frost here and it's bitterly cold .Thanks NMLC for starting, sorry to hear that work is still difficult, and looks as if it's going to drag on that way.TA our cats always hated the cat carrier, and with one of our larger cats, it took at least 2 of us to get him in it, and there were usually casualties with scratches. It's such a pity that she has this allergy, nasty for her and expensive for you.RR hope that horrible man is out of DD's life for good.I'll be glad to see the back of January, what with the weather and the resurgence of Covid - our family in Oz keep up with the news here, and are horrified at the way things are unfolding here, mind so are we!!Nowt happening here today, DH vacuumed yesterday and I swept some leaves up in the garden.I'll find jobs to do, tidying drawers or a cupboard, there's always something.Thinking of Ruby, Marie and Hester, also Bella - take care folks13

Morning everyone
I am pottering on here until the food shop arrives. Last night there was a heavy frost but that seems to have turned to rain overnight and now we have a misty drizzle. Still I'm not going anywhere so I guess it doesn't matter.
I've had my usual morning clean round and am working from home today once I get the food shop put away. There were a lot of items unavailable on the website so I am interested to see what subs I might have!
Dinner is going to be chilli and rice so that's easy and I think it will be soup and bread for our other meal. I seriously need to think of some different dinner options - does anyone know if there is a good thread on here for ideas?
I've made overnight oats for my breakfast for a change but I know I will be back on the hot porridge with a banana tomorrow as I love it so much!
I'm thinking I need to tidy and sort some of the kitchen cupboards so I am making a plan to do that on Saturday. I may as well make the best of my time at home!
Have a great day everyone.

Morning
Back to rain forecast today after a brief respite of sun yesterday. Its definitely getting lighter earlier now though so summer is coming guys just hang in there
I was offered a vaccine yesterday for mum at the weekend but logistically it was not possible they wanted her to go about 30 miles away and she would have to queue outside a large centre for goodness knows how long with no seats available she just couldn't do that at 90. Anyway her Gp surgery is lovely and offered us a house visit for her but it may be a couple of weeks away when they start using the Oxford vaccine. As she doesn't go out and we are in lockdown (well for most people anyway) this was the best option.
Today is sorting out shopping for her (yes bananas still pay a big part) I have been really lucky getting slots for her as and when required unlike the first lockdown and the subs are minimal if at all.
Apart from this I could do with a kitchen attack TA I was impressed with a two freezer tidy I am in awe
I need to sort out the cooking tins cupboard as they seem to be multiplying in there
Ruby hugs as always
Have a good day all x

Good morning everyone, sorry I didn't manage to check in yesterday, will try and make an effort whilst its still breakfast time. Sometimes the day just goes nowhere especially if there are lots of work meetings.
Today is a bit better with a couple of hours to run meetings this morning and only one this afternoon so I can't actually do some work (she says hopefully) and maybe get out with DD for a walk to help her mood improve.
Done a fridge clear out this morning and we had left over roast beef from the weekend last night with bubble and squeak. Beef bones were in aga last night so will make a lovely tasty soup with some veg. Got a chicken to cook for high protein treats, I started my healthy eating plan (my own devising, I did the same last year and it really works!) so I need some quick snacks like a piece of chicken or egg or cheese or nuts when I get hungry and trying to get the family to do the same rather than reach for the biscuits (they are not so convinced!)
Looking forward to making a stir fry tonight as my sons present to me was an Aga wok and its not been utilised yet!
Otherwise should be a non spending day but need to fit a few mundane jobs in like hoovering (always a struggle to find a time when no-one is on a zoom call!!)

Good morning, thank you nmlc, I hate the way that some employers treat their staff these days, hope things resolve in your favour. Hugs to Ruby and her DD, Marie, Hester, also Bella and Dumpling's Steve.
Funny old day yesterday, my sinus headache laid me low, felt really rough for most of the day, but it cleared 3ish, took Ddog a slightly longer walk, I was able to stride out for some of it, but then she decided that every other blade of grass needed a prolonged sniff and dawdled part of it, LO pasta bake for supper then managed my weekly injections, oh boy did one side hurt though!
A*da delivery due before 11:00 we will deal with that, OH and I have a good system for the disinfecting now, then if not too wet a longer walk together with Ddog. Supper not named, but have some ideas, would also like to make a cake and try making bread dough in the bread maker and cook it in the oven.
Stay safe and have the best day possible. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)11
