It does depend on individual circumstances somewhat. My Gas and Elec DD has gone up considerably (£45 a month increase. I avoided the suppliers suggestion of increasing by almost double that amount, through making a one off lump sum payment) I live in a period house with solid walls. In normal circumstances i am out of the house for almost 12 hrs a day. A person can drink many many cups of tea in 12 hours lol!
You can buy heavy duty plastic "mats" for office chairs - they're only around £30 or so. You could have saved yourself the cost of the floor repairs with a bit of forward thinking.

This indeed.is the answer. I paid 13.95 on eBay for mine, which has protected the floor nicely against my (employer provided) chair.
Your employer has no liability here regarding the floor their only liability is to ensure you are working safely. Perhaps if they supplied a chair that was in poor condition, say the seat just fell off and damaged personal property then possibly you could claim from them but even then there is some onus on you to regularly check equipment for defects etc. and report these asap.
I know someone who has a member of staff working from home, using a work-supplied laptop. He prefers to use it with a separate keyboard (his own) attached. He recently put in a claim for a replacement keyboard because 'using it for work was wearing it out'.
