But they haven't offered the OP less than they are due because until the defect is shown to have been caused by an inherent defect, they are not legally due anything at all.
They appear to have offered the OP less than they are due and whilst they can insist on a report they would have to pay the costs if it showed the goods didn't confirm.powerful_Rogue said:Very true, however this is the Consumer Rights section. Currently Tesco are going above and beyond.2 -
I'm aware of that, the point is Tesco are offering a lower amount in the hope it will taken to save them the risk of paying out more than the TV is worth on a report.DiddyDavies said:

Going "above and beyond" would be offering a fairer refund without the report.
They aren't doing the OP a favour, they are gambling on the lowest risk to them.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces1 -
imo 46 quid from a tv that is out of warranty and cost £200, its a fair amount considering its been 3 years.
Electronics last 10-15 years are designed to break down after 6 months if not 6 years, the reliability is pants regardless of what amount you spend. I spent over 1.5K on a OLED that went faulty just 3 months in with little usage.
Really depends what way you wish to proceed and if you fancy the fight or energy to try and get more, you may also ask for alternative options rather then accept the £46, tesco do lots of refurb units on ebay why not ask for a better deal off one of there own refurb TVs ? you can go on ebay and type in tesco refurbished tvs to see their stock and prices.
Amazon sometimes sell used or damaged box £40-43" tvs for £146-230 which still come with full warranty and you can also get the extra insurance for peace of mind.

I would be quite interested in seeing any kind of credible report proving a £200 TV was faulty at time of delivery that has worked perfectly for 3 years.

Tesco are playing the odds and hoping their low offer is accepted, whilst it may save the OP the inconvenience of obtaining a report I don't think they are going above and beyond.
The op has been unlucky
We have 42 and 32 inch Samsungs
Both are more than 10 years old and work perfectly0 -
As an ex TV Engineer of 30 years, including running my own repair shop for 10 of those, let me try and explain what an inherent fault is.If in the manufacture of a product in this case a television, poor quality components are used or poor manufacturer process or assembly, then problems can show up years later. This is what we are looking for by getting a report done.
What is not covered is customer damage,i.e. impact or liquid spillage or any missue of said product.
