So sorry knightstyle, I understand your frustration.  My solicitor wrote to me after five weeks to say he'd had zero contact from my vendor's solicitor.  I contacted the estate agent to chase it,  it took two weeks for the vendor to find out that her solicitor had tested positive, and her file hadn't been opened.  She has been assigned a new solicitor now, but we have lost seven weeks due to their lack of communication.  Good luck.
Any number of issues can cause delays. You'll never know what's happening elsewhere in the chain. People are more often or not two faced. Easy to blame a faceless solicitor when put on the spot.
Also easy these days to leave reviews for solicitors online and reduce the risk of them displaying a cavalier attitude towards their clients. Thankfully.
Which makes them worthless. In my personal experience those that complain the loudest are normally the least informed.
Except that's not entirely true is it?
If there's a large number of negative reviews that all have a similar theme in common, it's likely to highlight a systemic problem with the item or organisation.
For example, if I Google "Landmark Mortgages", there's a substantial amount of negative reviews that highlight the same issues regarding Bit heir business practices.
So does that mean mortgage prisoners are 'the least informed'?
    No, it doesn't.
If I Google the name of my conveyancer, there's pages of negative reviews that highlight the very issue we're having.
I wish I'd taken the time to read them before signing up with them.

Me, too. Lots of defensiveness on here, which is good. The profession needs to get their act together. Many are simply hopeless.

Just be assertive. I once was in this situation. I rang my solicitor and said do no more work, and cancel anything for the purchase, I won't be proceeding. That was the only call I made. Within hours, I was hounded by the estate agent, sellers and sellers solicitors for a week when majority of my requests were ignored. I ignored every call. They put it back on the market at a reduced price.

And you see that as a positive result for you?🤔

How many times have you moved house in the middle of a global pandemic?

One, but plenty of times otherwise and always the same poor, aloof service. The only difference now is they have a go-to excuse to cover up with.

Yes. Otherwise, you end up bottom of the pile. You get what you ask for in life. #MayaAngelou

This thread is about our sellers solicitors, we are not their clients so have no say in the matter and cannot complain.  Our buyers are elderly and do not want to make a fuss!  We are used to the French system which is/was much better as usually both buyer and seller use the same notaire, plus after 10 day the buyer is committed or looses their deposit.
