There is no requirement for the strip to be there any more on Mastercards.

Thanks. Would perhaps be helpful if they mentioned this on the paperwork sent with the card - as I am obviously not alone in querying this issue (especially when a small signature box is still provided on the card).0

What @TwiceNightly 's link confirms is that issuers no longer have to include a strip at all - but in my experience very few issuers have actually gone as far as to remove them (or even the requirement to sign it).Your agreement is with Halifax, not Mastercard, so you should follow their instructions. For cards where I can't sign with my normal signature I normally just use my 'initials' version. It's highly unlikely to ever be checked unless it gets robbed/cloned and sent abroad, and in those circumstances I'm confident my issuers would swiftly resolve the issue for me.1
