Having to sign receipt despite using a chip and pin

My 20yr old student daughter has a chip and pin debit card with HBOS. Every shop she uses it in asks her to sign the receipt...she talked to bank who suggested she get a fresh card...that didnt work.. Why are they asking her to sign when its chip and pin?? None of her student friends have this problem..I'm at a loss..

This sounds like the most likely explanation for this, for some reason your daughter has been issued a chip and signature card.eskbanker said:Is it definitely a chip & PIN card, rather than a chip & signature one?If there is no explanation for why she has been given a chip and signature card (usually you have to ask to have one of these cards instead of chip and pin, for example if you have difficulties remembering numbers ), might be best for your daughter to contact her bank and ask them to investigate further, maybe logging a complaint if they can’t find anything or not willing to.1 -
Does it work at an ATM?eskbanker said:Is it definitely a chip & PIN card, rather than a chip & signature one?
Sounds like someone in Halifax or Bank of Scotland thinks your daughter has a disability or picked a wrong dropdown. They will have various options online, offline, non-contactless, signature etc when ordering.

Well until the Op comes back and answers the questions posed, then we are all just guessing.
Never really get starting a thread and then not even checking back for any answers.

The OP will have been alerted to all the replies to their one and only post. Maybe they read the replies but didn't log in and therefore have neither responded to nor "thanked" posters.born_again said:Well until the Op comes back and answers the questions posed, then we are all just guessing.

Only if such notifications are enabled - I don't know if this is the default setting for new accounts....General_Grant said:The OP will have been alerted to all the replies to their one and only post.6 -
But in any case, they could read the replies without logging in.
