BT Broadband Package Tech Questions

We are on BT broadband 8meg unlimited use package.£27.99 p/m.
BT have been calling offering speed upgrade (we're already on max possible??
), and BT vision for £24.99 p/m on a 12 month contract.
As the BT Vision box is described as being controlled by the home hub, does this mean the internet speeds will slow down while you are watching TV through the BT Vision box?
Would they have to replace my home hub? (about 1 year old)
Would the old home hub be useless?
Will the new hub have one of those phones like on the tv ad?
Are there better options out there? (sky, virgin?)
currently I have a small home network, 2 p.c.'s and 1 laptop, just freeview boxes - no sky or cable.
I don't want to lose out just because I haven't got the time/expertees to keep up with all the industry competiton!

You need to do some bargaining with Bt. You can get BTVision + a couple of powerline adapters for networking via the ring main + a hub phone all for £19.99/month.
And the BTVision box is fed by your aerial for the Freeview TV and recording of Freeview, it only connects to broadband to download "video on demand".
