The belts also had short rigid stalks to mate the tensioners so you would need to change them as a pair to match. Depends on whether you are happy with a reduced level of safety and non originality.
And, yes, it'd also be an MOT fail (7.1.4 and 7.1.6) if the pretensioners were removed.

When I got mine, the original seatbelt plus pre-tensioner was stuffed in the rear quarter plugged in to avoid the air bag warning coming on.
I doubt an MOT examiner would spot it.
