Phone your local garage or Mini dealership.0

When you say "the seatbelt", do you mean the reel?
If so, then bear in mind it has to be the right way up to work properly. If it's tipped, it's designed to jam.
If you mean the latch, then please bear in mind it contains explosives...1 -
Firstly, you should find out why your seat belt jammed. It can cause different reasons, and those reasons require different solutions.0

Thank for responses - its the reel

That all depends on what the OP means when they state they have an original Mini Cooper.AdrianC said:If you mean the latch, then please bear in mind it contains explosives...
If it's a "real" Mini (before BMW bought the name) then it won't have explosive seat belt tensioner.0 -
If it is a real Mini Cooper I would suggest sending it off to a specialist to be reconditioned, they are not easy to obtain now.
There are plenty of specialist who may have a used one also. I hate stripping these sorts of things and personally would not trust a damaged mechanism on my DIY skills, there is not a lot between you and the accident on an original cooper !!!.

If that is the case, then it simply isn't worth mucking about. Just replace the belts. Dirt cheap, and off the shelf.

AdrianC, it's not quite that simple, the later coopers had Seatbelt tensioners fitted airbags etc. If they wish to maintain that functionality then they may wish to get the unit fixed. The belts also had short rigid stalks to mate the tensioners so you would need to change them as a pair to match. Depends on whether you are happy with a reduced level of safety and non originality.

If it was "original" (1961), would it have had seatbelts at all?DiddyDavies said:

If it was a cooper of that Era it would be in a bank vault this time of year and not on the road.[Deleted User] said:
