  • Dear all,
    Hope everyone is keeping safe.
I have just read that if you are with Virgin Media and you want to switch I noticed that you have to have a BT engineer come out to your home.
My question is who asks the BT engineer to come out or do you have to call them yourself please?
A quick response would be welcomed.
    Thank you

Your new provider will arrange for an engineer to visit, some providers will charge extra for this service. Also when you switch away from VF, you need to cancel with VM directly.

If you have an existing BT socket in the house then 99% of the time no home visit Is required

There will be exchange wiring and work on dp (green box on the street) but no need for entering the property

It’s not a BT engineer, it’s an Openreach engineer, if you switch from Virgin, then if you ask the new company that you want to retain whatever landline phone number you currently have, then the new company requesting VM to port the number in effect advises VM , the new company arranges service with OR, not you.
If you have VM broadband and or VM TV that will need a separate cancel, if you accept any old number from the new provider then you definitely need to contact VM as the VM service will continue alongside the new service.
As already stated, if the address previously had a landline , it’s possible it could be reactivated without the Openreach engineer visiting the property, but you would be asked to be home on the appointment slot , just in case they do need to be in.....obviously Covid restrictions now need to be taken into account
