Getting 2.4ghz one 5ghz router

Options
I bought a wireless printer last week that i can't connect to my broadband as it's 5ghz and the printer only works on 2.4ghz.  I only discovered this at step 4 of the set up (no mention of internet requirements on the retailer's product description, but they are refusing a refund because I installed the cartridges at step 2 and discovered the internet connection issue at step 4).

I've been advised on another thread that I can change my router to include 2.4ghz, but I have no idea how to do that?  Plus I'm a bit worried about 'upsetting' the rest of my wireless devices currently connected and working fabulously, would doing this cause issues?

I have a Sky broadband router, model SR203.

Can anyone help?  I'm at my wits end, I thought I would be cheerfully printing out worksheets for homeschooling for the week ahead by now!  :-(

Have you tried asking on the Sky Community forum? It's clear that the SR203 does support the 2.4 GHz band.

Your router supports both 2.4ghz and 5ghz, it may be that someone has disabled the 2.4ghz channel or it isn't synchronized.

Log in to your router via the IP 192.168.0.1, and on the first page it should show what channels are currently set for each frequency. If you don't see one for 2.4ghz then you need to go to the Wireless tab and enable it and also check if the 5ghz frequency is checked as synchronized.
  • Yes, you will upset all devices on the network when you split the bands. However it should be a simple process of re-adding them.

This is quite common. Buying another router to run it separately it’s not very money-saving.

    Thank you for your help.

I have 26 connected devices!  I hate this printer.

If you split your bands , I would leave the name of the 5Ghz alone and add 24 on the end of the 2.4Ghz band name

I'm going through this process with him on their other thread. Not had a reply so I'm wondering if they're now struggling to connect their PC back to the newly named SSID.

    What printer is it?

I recently had the unalloyed joy of trying to set-up a Canon TS9150 when my old printer died.

It was a nightmare to get going and played merry hell with all other devices on my network and I could only get it working on one band or the other.

What solved it was ditching the awful OEM “setup” program and doing it all manually via the settings screen on the printer. It now works impeccably on both bands.

My 'new' laptop wanted to connect to the 5Gz connection but each time I tried to print, it crashed the router.
Told the laptop to only use the 2.4 and all works seamlessly
