I have recently had 2 smart meters installed (Avro customer).
Well, they have asked for readings. Not sure why as they are ‘Smart’..Anyway I don’t understand how to read them. The electric one tells me the rate being used and the gas one is a blank screen.
Anyone any ideas please? Perhaps the fitter should have explained...

Have your meters got a small keypad on them ?
If so press 9
The elec meter gives kWh directly ; the gas m3 (do not attempt to convert this to kWh - it is the m3 reading that Avro want)
Even if they are Smart get into the habit of readings meters monthly, keeping records and checking bills.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
Please confirm make and model. The gas meter will need 'waking up'.1

Why is this so difficult? The electric meter has displayed 00087 kWh . Is this the reading ? It has buttons A and B.Don’t know what they are for. It is a Landis Gyr E470 .
The Gas meter is Landis Gyr Smets2. It has a red A button and black B button. It says press A for Meter Index(whatever that means) and press B to update (whatever that means)....all I want to do is send readings to Avro. Blimey why is this so awkward, especially as I shouldn’t have to do this now...
Thanks so far for replies and look forward to suggestions.0 -
Oh, and no keypad0

The meter index is the reading on a gas meter.1

Hi,it's not really so difficult. So, your electric was reading 00087 last night, what is it reading now?Gas, did you get a reading/index (m3) last night, if not read it now, read it again in a couple of hours.Ignore any figures after a decimal point and notify supplier of readings.Be a good idea to take readings at least once a month, set up a wee spreadsheet to keep your eye on usage and cost, also send in readings to supplier monthly.1

Thank you all .
Note to frugal: No it may not be difficult for you(same as many things when you know) but when you have new meters with 2 buttons many things showing when pressed and NOT even an explanation from anyone then it is guesswork. Prior to this I just looked at reading and there it is! Secondly one of the reasons I had these meters is that they are located in a very low awkward position and the idea was(so Lowri Beck told me) that I no longer needed to read them myself! Haha what a joke!
Finally, nobody on here has explained what the B button is for so would welcome any more expert input. Easy?..
I do appreciate everyone’s help. But please don’t patronise me with how easy it all is.
I am rather annoyed with a simple job causing me to come here asking for help for something I have done for 50 years.
Many thanks...1 -
What happens when you press Button B (besides a handful of coins falling out!) have you tried pressing it to see?0
