Hi I’m after some advice please. About a month ago I recieved a letter from a business centre in Nottingham claiming I owed over 300 pound for a debt 4 years ago. They said that I had to pay otherwise I would recieve a ccj and or debt collectors would take my possessions. I tried to contact them after googling them first and seeing hundreds of bad reviews saying they aren’t actually county court. While on the phone to them to try and find out what the debt was for I couldn’t pass security as they didn’t have my correct d.o.b and wanted me to send a copy of Id which I refused to do. I’ve received a letter today saying I now ow over 400 and I have to pay 100 a month. I don’t think this legitimate but darent ignore incase debt collectors do come. What do I do?

Tell us who the company is and we can tell you if they're legit or not0

Do you mean Northampton rather than Nottingham?0

If it's the Northampton County Court Business Centre it is a court (https://courttribunalfinder.service.gov.uk/courts/county-court-business-centre-ccbc) even if you find reviews on Google saying they are not a real court, etc. A CCJ issued by them is still a CCJ that goes on your credit file for 6 years if not paid off within the first month.0

All the court does is look at the case in front of it, and make judgement based on the facts, that’s it, nothing more.
It will have been the creditor or their tame solicitor you have been conversing with, they can say what they want, you are also entitled to tell them to go away, unless judgement goes in their favour, then an instalment order can be made.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. If the debt was £300 but is now £400 and they want £100, it sounds like the CCJ has been issued.sourcrates said:All the court does is look at the case in front of it, and make judgement based on the facts, that’s it, nothing more.

(from https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/fees-in-the-civil-and-family-courts-main-fees-ex50) , £35 for the Claim (assuming the company does them in bulk), with the rest will be the solicitors costs and the fee to register the default judgment.
OP needs to confirm, but if it is then they need to be mindful of the 1 month deadline.0
