Can I register a business on universal credit?

I thought I had it made it clear that I completely agree with that statement. My only question was about the implication by huckster that DWP could insist they register with HMRC even if they expected income from self-employment to be less than £1000 and ancillary to employment/job seeking. In his more recent post huckster has referred to this as hobby interest so this may be a terminology confusion - for UC it is self employment and relevant income and expenditure needs to be disclosed.NedS said: IMHO They would still be expected to declare self employment with UC, even if turnover is less than £1000 per year.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. My question in response to your earlier post was about some one declaring some self employment which is not expected to take up most of their time or be their principal means of supporting themself. Your earlier post could be read as implying that even in that situation DWP would expect claimant to register with HMRC.huckster said:At the point someone starts self employment, if they did not have aspirations of turnover of £1000 or more in a year, you would start questioning whether this was really a business or a hobby interest.
My understanding is that if someone is claiming they are self employed and this is taking up most of their time, with no time for any employed work, there is an expectation they should be registering with HMRC. Whether they wait until they are close to turnover of £1000 would be up to them.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -

Actually re-reading what I wrote earlier I can see it wasn’t as clear as I intended!NedS said:Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1
