Better late than never! We should have locked down like Australia and NZ!0

Locking down to that level would have left supermarkets short of food - we aren't as self-sufficient like those countries!kmcatherall said:Better late than never! We should have locked down like Australia and NZ!
If you meant lockdown to allow goods movements only, don't forget where the new variant originated - the point where hauliers were entering the UK, who weren't subject to the checks that tourists were, like a mandatory 14 day self-isolation for anyone who has been to or through France.1 -
Interestingly, Brisbane and other areas of Queensland have just had a three day lockdown over just one case. The virus is cropping up in Australia despite the measures they have taken. They have done brilliantly however, due to tough measures and more compliance by the population which we don’t seem to have as much of here. I wonder why, but that’s another argument.0

Easier to contain Covid when the only practical means of travel internally is by air !Ibizafan said:Interestingly, Brisbane and other areas of Queensland have just had a three day lockdown over just one case. It's ok, if you come over in a dingie from France you have no papers so get can't get a test but don't need a test via that sort of entry. PCR tests are free in France anyway, they are not making money out of it like we are.brettcta said:Better late than never but yes, it should’ve been in place early doors. What a terrible comment. As if people attempting to cross the English Channel in a dinghy (not dingie) are doing it for fun. They do it because they are desperate and, as we know, some of them, children included, die in the most awful circumstances on the way. It's a very sad day when British people resent helping other human beings in trouble. In fact, your comment makes me feel ashamed to be British.MiserlyMartin said:

I lived in Brisbane for a few years - my daughter was born there. There are actually other very practical means of internal travel, not just air. Trains for one and vehicles for another. They also have buses. All very practical. But not all of them safe during a pandemic.Thrugelmir said:

If you combine the populations of Canada, Australia and NZ for 2020, the total is approximately 68.5 million. In the UK in 2020 there were approximately 67.8 million of us. So there are fewer of us in the UK. Marginally, yes, but fewer.
Ibizafan is right when they say that Oz is containing the virus better than we are. That's simply because, even though they may have more space and are not quite as densely populated (except in the big cities, where they actually are), they are more compliant and realise that any strict measures are for their own good. Same with Canada and NZ. I am lucky to have friends in all four countries. None of them can understand the shambles that's happening here. And I can't explain it, either. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. The irony of someone complaining about migrants, and not being able to spell in English is delicious. As well as being very Daily Mail. Haven't you got a UKIP forum you could post on?MiserlyMartin said:

Seems as if you are trying to find every reason to justify it being a shambles. Rather than accept that people living in close proximity together will transmit the virus very easily.MalMonroe said:

But you have answered your own question, people in those countries are more compliant entering into the spirit of the rules as well as the letter of the laws. Here it's quite the contrary with too many people looking for ways to avoid the rules applying to themselves. One example, In the first lockdown whilst family members couldn't come to your home you could employ a cleaner. The spirit of the rules were exactly that, a cleaner could clean your home. Instead of entering into the spirit of the rules people were employing their mother/father/sister/otherfamilymember as a "cleaner" and just happened to be having a chat whilst they "cleaned"MalMonroe said:

Rather than pointing fingers maybe people need to look in the mirror more for the answer.2
