Public sector employee no furlough

Hello,

Does anyone know if public sector employees who aren't eligible to request furlough can get financial support if they request reduced working hours? I.e paid leave?

Gov guidance is unclear:

If you’re a public sector employee

Where organisations receive public funding for staff costs we expect employers to pay staff as usual – and correspondingly not furlough them.

Only organisations that are not fully funded by public grants should consider accessing the scheme. Your employer should contact their sponsor department or respective administration for specific queries.

It doesn't state what exactly we'd be 'paid as usual' for?

Thanks.

Who is making the request for reduced hours?  The employee or the employer.
Why is the request being made?

Paid as usual for doing your job
Paid as usual for being redeployed into another role
Paid as usual for sat at home doing nothing in the unlikely event that the 1st 2 can't happen.

If just want to do less hours then you will just be paid less

Furlough is a job retention scheme

Public Sector workers who are effectively paid for by the government/tax payer have little to worry about their job security (very grateful for that)

No Public Sector workers (afaik) are "entitled" to furlough as you link suggests

For childcare / home schooling reasons. Even though it's a job retention scheme I believe working parents are encouraged to request it if they need help with that.

Employee, to help have more hours dedicated to child care and schooling.
All annual leave has been used to cover reduction in hours but it only covers three weeks.

You can ask to have your hours reduced (and paid accordingly) OR take unpaid leave.

    Furlough isn't a substitute for childcare/school

Are you not able to send your child to school as a key worker ?

Key worker status or flexible working?

    "If you have caring responsibilities
You can be furloughed if caring responsibilities arising from Coronavirus (COVID-19) mean you are:

unable to work (including from home)
    working reduced hours
Examples of caring responsibilities include caring for:

children who are at home as a result of school or childcare facilities closing

So what has your employer said when you asked for "childcare furlough"?
