You don't have to decide any of that today.dilby said:Thanks @KeithP - I'm going through the defence doc now. Apologies for my stupid questions, I am finding it quite overwhelming, so appreciate the kind help and patience. Am I right in saying though that either way this will end up in court? I realise these people are cowboys and it goes against this whole forum, but i am under a lot of stress at the moment and my wife is not well; to boot her father went bankrupt when she was young and the idea of CCJ's and court etc is very triggering for her. If I was to pay now would that avoid court? The form itself is confusing in this regard.
Do the AoS as described above to buy yourself more time to think about those other things.
Of course you can pay anytime up to going through the courtroom doors - though quite why anyone would pay the inflated sum being asked for is beyond me.
Doesn't everyone know someone has been to court for something or other at sometime in their life? Not sure how someone else's court case 'while she was young' should cloud her judgement now, but that's something for a discussion elsewhere.
Who is the named Defendant, you or your wife?3 -
If you pay now you will pay considerably more than were you to lose at court. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

VCS don't use a solicitors firm and tend to handle all of their litigation in house. When it goes to court they will likely use a hired legal rep.
Your SAR goes to VCS. I'd email both litigation@vehiclecontrol.co.uk AND info@vehiclecontrol.co.uk. Both are very slow to reply, it's likely you will have to actively prompt them.3 -
I'd tell VCS that while you deny any debt, nonetheless you're taking debt advice and you require them to suspend action for at least 30 days as per the Pre-Action Protocol for Debt Claims (PaP). Their para-legal Joke Burgess should understand that!

OMG don't fold and pay it. Why even come here if you are going to support the scam against some more victims and think that's a good example to your fasmily and friends because life is hard at the moment?
There is a template defence that takes 15 minutes for a Defendant to edit. Hardly difficult, and no, it is not certain to end in a hearing but if it does, it will likely be over the phone. Think of it as a 'proper appeal' to an independent body.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Easily done @umkomaas, with so many posts per day it is hard to remember whether they are at pre-action or in action or post-action.Umkomaas said:

I was a bit worried that @Scrapit would be along shortly questioning how many days I'd missed at school! 😆Le_Kirk said:
