This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dark very cold start again to the day.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready also, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was a SM chinese takeaway -very nice it was too. Tonight will be something and chips.
Yesterday was very chilled, I did a few jobs then had a while on here. Wrote my shopping list for this morning. I'll be heading out to the SM first thing. I had booked a click and collect with one of the budget SM's as they have just launched this service for a pick up yesterday morning, I got a telephone call and email Wednesday night to say they had tech problems and it had been cancelled - so not impressed!
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Very, very cold this morning, -5 and a thick frost - there could be a little tiny bit of snow lying too. At least it's not foggy (yet), yesterday was so gloomy.
I went out yesterday and bought plenty of heat logs and coal so was lovely and toasty, didn't manage to go for a walk as it was too foggy for me. Washing has dried overnight, I moved the rack into the living room when I went to bed so the heat from the stove has dried it well.
My first day back today, can't imagine it's very busy but you never know. I'll take a book in case!
Thinking of you Ruby, I'm sure it was a very upsetting day for you all.
Also thinking of MM, hope you had your meeting.
Take it easy Topsy, I've heard it can take months to feel better.
Happy Friday, take care. XX14 -
Morning
topsy I'm glad you're feeling better, take it easy xx
RedRuby I've been thinking about you since your post yesterday. I'm glad you spoke to your mum properly, there's no way you should tell her from a distance – that wouldn't be right at all.
Miss tru has lost her job, they're closing some branches and hers is one of them. They were given a weeks notice, then were asked to come in for four days to help pack stock etc. They were told they didn't have to do this, but thought it might be a sneaky way to avoid paying redundancy – the company might argue that they left of their own accord, maybe? - so they're all going in today but none of them want to be there.
It stayed foggy and frosty all day yesterday, felt nice and fresh until about 4pm when the air felt damp and the cold seemed to go down to your bones. I was in the front garden sorting the bins, neighbour was doing the same so we had a chat over the fence. We were both freezing but stayed out there for nearly half an hour, it was nice to chat to someone outside the house for a while.
My skin is very dry and my hip has tightened up a bit. I need to pay a bit more attention to myself so I'll make a start today. I'm not going to throw myself into a long drawn out daily routine, I've done that before and soon got fed up with it. I just need to make a little bit more of an effort.

Right not sure what i am up to today will probably be Friday clean i need to pop to shops to get some lasagne's and garlic bread for Monday as the family will need feeding after the funeral and it will probably be the only chance of us being all together till April so hopefully we can have lunch together at the house not much of a wake but it will have to suffice for now
Right better get dressed and walk the dog not that she seems too interested in getting out of bed
Have a good day stay warm and safe xxSlava Ukraini15 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. More snow overnight and heavy snowfalls are forecast for the rest of the day. An e-mail from the council said they would be gritting all night hoping to keep the main roads open. We shall see if that happens!
Friday Tidy day. So the excitement of today will be going round up and down with a duster and my trusty vac. It seems a lot of us are leaving festive lights around to cheer up these miserable days we are in. I have string lights coiled in suitable receptacles and artistically (!!) draped here and there. But I drew the line at leaving the tree up like some people that were interviewed yesterday on tv are doing!!!
DD had her 2nd Covid jab yesterday with her fingers crossed she didn't suffer the same ill effects as she did with the first. Alas she does. She texted me earlier to say she feels dreadful, every bit as bad as the first time and has had no sleep at all. Now dosed up with painkillers with her fingers crossed. Strange how it seems to affect some people worse than others.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. RUBY you and your family have been on my mind constantly, especially your DM. I just can't imagine how she is feeling. TOPSY pleased you are feeling a bit better. BELLA and MARIE thinking of you too. Take care one and all and stay safe x

Morning all
Thank you again for the thoughts, yesterday was as hard as we thought sister and I went up and broke the news to mum she was to say the least inconsolable and sobbed and sobbed she said she had a feeling something like this was happening as brother has lost five stone, im sure mum did not sleep last night and I have been up most of the night thinking of her, my brother looks very poorly indeed he has no fat on him at all, he said he fancied some soup so I offered to make him some but he just fancied a tin so sis and I went to the shop and got him a selection of tins and some fruit and full fat puddings to try and tempt him to eat a little. I will pop up and see mum again later as i dont want her to be alone too much. Yesterday was the first time I have seen my sister cry as an adult and it was heartbreaking, this has been such a horrible start to the year.
I am waiting for a call from the hospital this morning as they have put me onto a dry dressing and I bent down last night and felt the dressing pull away from the wound I yelped in pain and when I looked I was bleeding, all night when I moved I felt the dressing pulling and it is really uncomfortable, so I have phoned the breast care nurses this morning and am waiting for a call back, I think I might have to go back to a wet dressing for a while but we will see.
Dinner tonight will be the spag bol from yesterday as none of us felt like eating much.
Marie you are in my thoughts xx
Topsy take it easy xx
Bella I am thinking of you and your family xx
Have good days all and take care xx15 -
Morning folks.Yes, it's very cold here too, though not as cold as where Camelot is. The fog only came down in the late evening yesterday and the day was bright.I did a little light shopping but managed to forget the one item which DM wanted especially. It can wait now until tomorrow. Marks was very quiet compared to the chaos of New Year. Then I picked up a couple of cakes and that was me done. No going out today. My emails need some attention, there's so many which need answering including one from a long-lost friend which was lovely to receive. I remember going to his wedding in the early 80s and before that his parents ( who were great friends with DM) held a huge NY party every year with Radio 4 being used for the bells. Happy days.Ruby - please take some time to gather yourself after what I'm sure was a terrible time yesterday. My heart goes out to you and your family. 💕
Happy Friday to all.14 -
Morning! A light dusting of snow happened last night and we have a high of 2 degrees to look forward to. I, on the other hand, have a blood test and a walk to enjoy. If it doesn't rain. If it does rain, I'll drive there. And then some general tidying and kitchen wranging. I haven't kept on top of stacking the dishwasher so there are bowls and mugs and glasses to go in. Listen to me making out that that's an onerous task...Well, I have to make something sound good because nuffin, I repeat, nuffin has happened
Except the wood was delivered, we stacked it, the house smells of bread again...
I bought a jigsaw from ebay to keep us occupied for a few days. I did look for some Terry Pratchett ones but they are absolutely horrendous prices! I might dig out my two and sell them...Ruby ,hugs. I have to say, no idea if this is helpful or not, but they found an excess of calcium in my father blood, it made him feel sick and not want to eat. Hope the dressing change works wonders. Hugs for your bother and mum too, it's an awful thing to have to sit and discuss, it's hard to find words sometimes. Tospy, yeah, it can take a fair while to get over it for some, just be nice to yourself for a bit. Bella, hope it all goes smoothly today. Marie, hope you got some help yesterday. And hey all readers along, hope you're being kind to yourselves too, and are wrapped warm it's fuh fuh fuh freezing Friday out there!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi15 -
Oh Rubes I wish I could give you the biggest cotton wool wrapped hug I really do. You have been through so much this last year. Your mum will need you lots now of course but you must look after yourself as well maybe talk to your nurse about what you are going through as all this extra stress is bound to affect your healing. Lots of love coming your way
xx

Good morning, thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Ruby I am thinking of you, and Bellabella and of all of us who are struggling through.
Not much going on here, OH has been out to the butchers early this morning. We had very low temperatures yesterday, then snow and more this morning - it is meant to snow on and off through the day. I'm not going out, I've fed the birds but it is going to be slippy so no walk.
Hope today is, if not a happy day, at least bearable.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12
