  • We have had two letters like others, do I need to do anything about the letters?  I was concerned someone might try to borrow money on our house or something.

If you're not already in the habit of keeping an eye on your credit files then it might not be a bad time to start.

Depending on the scale and nature of your concern, you could also take out a CIFAS protective registration if you feel it's worth doing, which puts obstacles in the way of anyone (including you) taking out credit in your name - I haven't seen the detail of the letters but in at least one similar scenario before, the breached company has offered to fund this service.

A reply from PNB via email (the phone number on the letter is timing out) suggests the data breach on theetter apologising for the data breach was a 'Technical error'.

I've asked them to raise a final and formal complaint.

    This institution just isn't compliant.

Consider moving your accounts (if you still have them).

They've been caught with their trousers down multiple times and it'll happen again.
  • I'm glad it is not just me. As to their generally poor ability to run a banking service I guess this is light-touch regulation from the FCA.
As to the data breach - it is strange is that the breach apparently took place in August 2020 but they are only informing their customers now - not exactly "without undue delay".
  • This mob are going to try again and send another letter out.

    Brace yourselves
  • Not surprised to hear this about pnb. Some while ago I tried to open an account and they lost my cheque.
