Jenni_D said:Did the laptop come with Windows 10 on it when you bought it? Does it have anything on it to suggest it originally came with Windows 7?
Is there a Certificate of Authenticity on the laptop anywhere? (Or maybe on the box it came in, or on some piece of paper)?

Thanks for feeding back. I don't think I can help further so I'll leave you in (what appear to be) the capable hands of the other posters.

Thanks for doing that - it looks like you have a fake windows installation which has lasted until now but has been picked up by microsoft. What can you do?
1. technically? buy a real windows licence (ie new product key). Either google to find people selling them, or buy from microsoft direct (go to settings / update and security / activation and then buy a new key from there)
2. otherwise? who is the store who sold you the machine? They have sold you a counterfeit product. Ask them for a full refund (OR ask them to pay for the new W10 licence). If they do not comply, go to your credit card (assuming you used a card). Be sure to say the product is counterfeit. If no card, then moneyclaim online (aka small claims court - it is easy)
Others on here may have other solutions.2 -
I again agree with smithy! Only sharing the thunder with the inspector Perez run Belarc first then you will have evidence printed out if you need it!

If you end up buying a new license don't spend more than £40. Eg. Pcpro.link/windows10I don't know if your current installation will take a new key as it is or whether a reinstall is advised (others may confirm).0

Have you considered 'upgrading' to W10pro - keys are available on ebay for a few quid
