New GHIC card?

The MSE story on this was updated yesterday, BUT, for me the MSE link to apply this new card doesn’t work, it links to a page to apply for a new EHIC card, which UK citizens can no longer have if their old one has expired. My EHIC expires on January 15th, so I now need to apply for the new GHIC, even though we can’t go anywhere yet!!

This is a very new scheme so expect somethings to work out. As you can not go anywhere at the moment why not just leave it for a few weeks?StevieD54 said:The MSE story on this was updated yesterday, BUT, for me the MSE link to apply this new card doesn’t work, it links to a page to apply for a new EHIC card, which UK citizens can no longer have if their old one has expired. Westin, all I was doing was pointing out that that the MSE GHIC link doesn’t work (I’m not panicking about a new card), as for some reason I couldn’t add my comment about the dodgy link in the headline comments. Hoping Callum (or somebody in MSE) sees it!0

Going slightly off topic but if you are a dual national living in Britain I thought there had been word that the UK government would issue you with a new EHIC card based on your secondary citizenship.StevieD54 said:The MSE story on this was updated yesterday, BUT, for me the MSE link to apply this new card doesn’t work, it links to a page to apply for a new EHIC card, which UK citizens can no longer have if their old one has expired.0 -
Noted but the MSE article does also say -StevieD54 said:Westin, all I was doing was pointing out that that the MSE GHIC link doesn’t work (I’m not panicking about a new card), as for some reason I couldn’t add my comment about the dodgy link in the headline comments. "If you don't quite know your GHIC from your EHIC just yet, don't worry, the Government's website is still catching up as well. Its online application portal still refers to the EHIC in a few places for now. While it sounds a little daft, the Government has told us that if you apply now for what may appear to be an EHIC, you're really applying for a GHIC – though it may take a few weeks to arrive."

If you have a valid EHIC card that will still work, we renewed ours last year...

Simon Calder was on TV yesterday and advised that this new GHIC had less benefits etc. than an EHIC.0

Martin has just finished his Thursday night ITV programme and in that said you could apply now. I've tried but because I'm a UK citizen who was living in this country last year the system tells me it cannot see that I am eligible and therefore I cannot proceed to apply. Why is Martin continuing to say you can apply when actually it is not possible if you are living in this country and are a citizen of the UK?0

Well it's accepted in fewer countries. That's strange really given the name change from European to Global.NoodleDoodleMan said:Simon Calder was on TV yesterday and advised that this new GHIC had less benefits etc. than an EHIC.0 -
