If you look at the US movements (in their own currency) during the day, the Dow was up about 2%, then lost 0.5% as the riot started; the S&P500 was up1.1% and lost 0.5%,  and the Nasdaq up 0.5% then lost 1.1%. So they were generally optimistic, until the deadenders took the shine off the day.

    Plus:
The head of a major U.S. business group that represents 14,000 companies including Exxon Mobil Corp, Pfizer Inc and Toyota Motor Corp urged senior U.S. officials to consider removing President Donald Trump from office after supporters of the outgoing president stormed the U.S. Capitol.
National Association of Manufacturers President and CEO Jay Timmons said Trump “incited violence in an attempt to retain power, and any elected leader defending him is violating their oath to the Constitution and rejecting democracy in favor of anarchy.... Vice President (Mike) Pence, who was evacuated from the Capitol, should seriously consider working with the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to preserve democracy.

  • The American Dream has hit the buffers.  End of an Empire.

Something like this was always going to happen with that madman as President. Thank goodness he lost the election because if he had got another 4 years he would have cemented his position so securely that the USA would have become a dictatorship!

    I'll give you evens, Username999.

Did you trim your USA or UK shares on this "News" or take no action.
I think you left them as they were.

I wonder what Jon Sopel will be doing this time next year, he'll certainly miss his bread and butter, Mr Trump!

Watching the news, it's difficult to gauge the fallout.
I don't know. Anyone want to bet on the FTSE opening up tomorrow?

There's many deep rooted social issues within the US. Divided on a number of levels. Trump unfortunately is just the tip of the iceberg.

A bet against America has been a great way to lose money for more than 100 years. Not that any armchair pundits have actually lost any money because talk is cheap.

Of course it remains to be seen whether America is driving into a cul-de-sac or whether Trump was just a toilet break at the World's weirdest motorway services.

Quite right, username, I left them as they were.
John Sopel will have plenty to report on, I reckon; it's never boring in America!
