Unable to edit posts?

I have just joined but I am unable to edit my posts- I read a previous post that said the edit button should appear instead of the thanks button when I am logged in but that isn't the case? I am still seeing thanks- when I click on it, it says it isn't possible to do it on my own posts. I am not seeing anything on the right hand side either when I go to my posts. Am I doing something wrong?

Look at the blue/green header strip above your post with the day/date and time, at the far right of the strip is a small round button click on that and all should be revealed.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Cajef but i still cant edit. I am wondering if it is because I am new to the site? i can see the header but where you say it just says the number of replies and views. Hopefully you can see my screen shot below.

You have not posted enough times and are still caught in the spam prevention measures.

Thank you Duncanthedog, I thought it was just me being stupid! Any idea of how much I need to post? its good that there is that system there to prevent spam though.

Suspect it might not appear for new users, as part of the anti-spam measures introduced a while back. When we were being bombarded with spam, the spammers would often create several innocuous posts to get their post count up, then go back an edit in the spam at a later time. If they spammed from the outset, the posts got picked up very quickly and the spammers account suspended.

I do but that would be telling
Just keep posting, the cog will appear eventually and if you get yours posts right first time there will be no need to use it

Thanks for the info experienced for forumites! I was having the same problem, and also not being able to post a link - but I guess it comes under the same anti-spam rules.
