No fault accident, should I cancel Auxillis contract

On New Year's Eve a van ran a red light, and crashed into my car. I spoke to my insurance yesterday morning and they gave me the option to either pay my excess and have them handle the claim, or go through Auxillis. I (perhaps naively) chose the second option. However now I'm reading lots of bad reviews and seeing stories about people being liable for high hire car charges. I also googled the garage they are sending my car to and it has horrible reviews. I have already signed Auxillis's contracts via email but I haven't received the hire car from their company yet, I expect to get it tomorrow. Is it too late now to cancel the contract with them and go through the other party's insurer instead, or has that ship sailed? The other party has clearly admitted that they were in the wrong. Will it mess up my claim somehow to do this? I have never been through any of this before so any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks and Happy New Year!

What does the contract say about cancellation?
  • here's what it says. i'm also concerned about whether cancelling will have some effect on my overall claim. i'm a bit clueless about all this so sorry if i'm not expressing things very well.

I would not worry too much, especially if you have dashcam and/or witnesses. Where it gets messy is where the claim is not obvious. Had a similar one last year and Auxisilis dealt with all the stuff fine.

Has the TP insurer already contacted you to offer to handle things? (When someone ran into the back of me a couple of years ago the TP insurer called me the very next day. If it wasn't for mine being a company car - thus I had no choice in how it was handled - I would have engaged directly with the TP insurer and merely notified my own insurer of the incident).

If the TP insurer hasn't already admitted liability then I'd caution changing course until they do. FWIW I also had an Auxillis contract for the incident above and all was OK, but I'm aware that this is not the same for everyone.

I would say that when Direct Line rushed in to offer their assistance I was more than happy to let them handle it as there was clear liabiliity. Having done this in the past I thought it would be fine.
Oh how wrong could I be, the worst experience I have ever had that ended up costing me probably a £1000, they lied to me and the garages involved, bullied me , bullied the garage into quoting substandard / unsafe repairs. In the end I accepted to a lowly sum just to move on with my life. I realized why the likes of Auxillis exist, its of the insurance companies own making. I requested a fair and realistic settlement for a badly damaged car with 4 passengers that was rear ended.
