I used to ride my Japanese import NC25 Bros through the Winter, and only ever cleaned that when it was filthy, it lasted me around 10 years, the paint and alloy were perfect- but it started to have problems with wiring connector corrosion when it got to 20 years old.I had a brand new 650 Deauville that was made in Spain, and after 3 years most of the paint flew off, the alloy had more fur than a Pomeranian and even the plastic was shabby
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

What?!!s4uch1e said:Thanx for the advice, i will definitely try acf-50 as ive been warned against using wd40 by father in law as water based.
Thanx again
Does you father in law know the wd stands for water dispersing. Where is he getting this information cos it ain't listed on the can. Is a it a COSHH sheet or a SDS? Always question such "wisdom".0 -
Having sprayed my bike with acf50 my bike wont start, once i coated bike it sat in garage for two weeks as i wasn't needing it, went too start it last night and it wouldnt start. Everything was working good before applying acf50.
Bike is a 69plate Yamaha YZR125
has anyone else had this problem?0 -
It's unlikely to be the ACF50 (unless you've sprayed it all over the electrics) and more likely the 2 weeks sitting. I assume you've checked petrol/kill switch. Is the battery flat/weak? Can you charge it or jump start it? Or bump it (best done with a mate to help or a hill). After that you'll need to start checking for sparks, etc.0

Another vote for ACF-50. It's not very nice to use but it kept my Suzuki like new for three Welsh winters living outside and commuting daily. Allow half a day to strip the bike as far as possible (seat, plastics etc) and apply, avoiding brakes (and exhausts - you are supposed to be able to apply to exhausts but the stink is appalling). During use, rinse road dirt off as often as possible with clean water. Allow another half day in the Spring for a strip and clean, using white spirit, meths etc as the stuff is VERY clingy. Bike like new underneath if you've done it right.

ACF-50 won't affect electrics. It was designed to protect airframes and their electronics from corrosion.I'd agree - two weeks sitting is the problem.

Cold weather and lack of use killed battery. If not using. You need a smart charger connected to stop it going flat.s4uch1e said:Having sprayed my bike with acf50 my bike wont start, once i coated bike it sat in garage for two weeks as i wasn't needing it, went too start it last night and it wouldnt start. ACF50.
Clean bike, spray on. Forget about till weather is more summer like then clean bike again.
No need to wash bike over the worst months. The more crud that builds up the better the protection against salt.Life in the slow lane0
