I work for a Romanian rescue we make sure all our dogs travel direct to adopters are tested for a lot of extras and provide workshops and aftercare.  Any adopter needs to do research before adoption on if a romanian adoption is right for them some dogs can be so scared and it really does depend on the rescue and how well they assess their dogs as well as the adopters willingness to take on advice a important part is aftercare and that advice will speed any issues along.  For us we have a coordinator for each adopter they can talk to and people who help with behaviour.  End of the day if you put the work in the same with any adoption you will have a amazing dog.  Things to understand that are different from a UK rescue that a reputable rescue will advise you on in the first month your dog may be a escape risk these dogs have been street dog and even the pups have the instincts if they hear a loud bang or something spooks they will not have had time to build that trust in you to run to you first, if you dont have a long lead or even a harness on they can and will clear 6-7 ft fencing to get away.  When they first arrive they can act as if they are unfazed and a normal dog or hide and not allow you near.  No matter which you have they need time to decompress and understand their new environment some have never lived in a home it is very scary and while its your first instinct to try and stroke and cuddle its best to allow the dog to explore and come to you on their terms.
